    Navy SEALs Vietnam

Lt. Thomas R. Norris in Vietnam with Nguyen Van Kiet, the Vietnames Sea Commando who accompanied him on the rescues of Clark and Hambleton. Kiet was awarded the Navy Cross for his role in this operation, the highest award the navy can give to a foreign national.

Michael Thornton and fellow SEALS in Vietnam. "We went to places where big army units didn't go."

Michael Thornton and two SEAL comrades in Vietnam.

"It's hard to explain to somebody that's never been there what it's like to work in an area where you're outnumbered."

Michael Thornton, shortly after arriving in Vietnam.

"They know in combat you're going to be outnumbered every time."

Off duty in Da Nang. Michael Thornton second from left in back row. Lt. Thomas Norris at right in front row.

Yeah, the SEALs had a limited number of HK33s. Photos of them, with them, are rare. I think this is the only one i've seen, besides a short video clip.

They were not HK 33, they were a clone made by Harrington & Richardson called the T223.

Notice the use of Levis 501 blue jeans by several SEALs for operations in wetlands....they were more silent than baggy fatigues.

But they're blue... also the camo glares and the watch is exposed...

What's your opinion of that? I think he just wore the jeans in barracks and put on the ammo and the gun just for a pic. Because jeans also limit your agility.

I first saw that pic about 7 years ago, nice to see it again. I always thought it was a G3, but now I see the longer magazine....

I have a SEAL video from Vietnam but I only have it on VHS...

No, they wore the jeans on missions too.

Hey, I am not inventing this thing on Levis jeans you know...

Seriously, it's explained in several books I read about SEALs in VN how some operators prefered to use denims instead of fatigues during amphibious Op.

The colour was often not a problem because the wetness made the denims much darker and a lot of Op were carried out a night anyway.

From : SEALs UDT/SEAL Operations in VN by T.L Bosiljevac ISBN 08041-0722-X, Ivy Books

"Note the variety of weaponry, equipments and uniforms (including blue jeans). Such dress was common among SEAL and UDT units."

There is also a pic of Navy Cross holder SEAL Barry Enoch wearing Levis in Vn in the book: "Teammates: SEALs at war"

A pic of that rifle was posted a few weeks ago in a thread about SEALs weapons IIRC...I only know of two pics of SEALs with T223 anyway.
