    Default do-it-yourselfers unite!

ok, i had done up some sorta cool hats, then made myt own single mag pouch, and i posted em in the "new aquisitions thread, ... then i realized they werent new aqusitions, so i figured i'd start a thread where we can post gear and uniforms we make or modify ourselves.....

    Modular mission hats:

Single Mag pouch knocked together from 50/50 NYCO D-MARPAT with 3mm closed cell foam core

Ohh boy, another M4 mag pouch. Be sure to wake me when you make something REALLY interesting, like a new ripoff of the IIIA pack...

Just kidding. I actually want to get into making my own gear myself, but I don't have the stuff to do it. Do you sew? What kind of machine do you us? I'm guessing my grandmother's Schwin won't go through 1000D Cordura.

What the rationale for the groomet (sp) in the hat? It is done in order to hang it?

you'd be suprised... i use a Kenmore Mini Ultra.. little blue housewife machine... so far so good.... but only done one thing in cordura and that was 500D, not 1000... i'm getting a ton of 1000d tommorow, and then we'll see.

yea underdog, the grommet is a hanger... i ripped that idea off of killer Studios... they put it on the front center of the brim... i just moved it... i A) didnt like ripping off another guy and B) didnt like the grommet., so i threw the d ring and strap on there

I wouldn't take that much for making one in CT but the fabrics here in Iceland are expensive so that would be the biggest downside and therefor upping the total price.

I'm using my wifes Husqarna (not sure what model) it can handle all fabrics I put through it BUT the needles dont so I need to find some better needles that fit in a normal "housewife" machine.
Right now I'm just using normal fabric (no nylon, except the webbing) and same with the thread.
