    As for the conscripts in Special forces, yes there was some years ago, but today there are only professionals there. In the ellite forces there are still conscripts, i thing this will also change in the future.

    31st SPECIAL OPERATIONS SQUADRON "ACHILLES"



    The First Special operation Unit of Hellenic Airforce formed in 1998, as Special Operations Group “SMEE” (Sminos Idikon Epihiriseon) wich has CSAR operations as a mission. In the year 2000 Greek Airforce aquired 4 “Super Puma” Helicopters and the next year another 3. In 2001 the “SMEE” upgrated and re named as 31st Special operations Squadron “31 MEE” (31i Mira Idikon Epixiriseon) The mission of the unit is operations SAR (Search and Rescue) During Peace, while in a case of War the unit will do CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) Operations, and other special operations. In the unit serve only proffecionals, who must pass varius Special operations Schools, such as the Airborne-Para School (SHAL) the Rangers School, the Guerila Warfare School, and others.

    The Air - Cushion Landing Craft "Zubr" (NATO name: Pomornik) is the bigest Air - Cushion Landing Craft in the World today. These Ships has a speed of 60 Knots and a Range of 300Miles with a speed of 55 Knots, Full weight displacement of 550 Tones, it can cary up to 230 Soldiers and Tanks with total weight 130 Tones. Hellenic Navy has 4 of them.

    32η ΤΑΞΙΑΡΧΙΑ ΠΕΖΟΝΑΥΤΩΝ
    32nd MARINE BRIGADE

    The 32nd Marine Brigade of the Hellenic Army is one of the elite infantry units. It was formed in 1965 as 32nd Marine Regiment, but in 1988 it was re-named as a 32nd Marine Brigade.
    The marines was wearing the dark blue bere (as you will see in some photos) but lately (in 2000 if i am not mistaken) they wear the Green bere like the rest ellite forces (except the 71st Air-Mobile Brigade which has the red) and the special forces of the Army.

    1ST PARATROOPERS-COMMANDO BRIGADE
    The first commando unit of the modern Greek-Army was the Sacred Company during the WWII. After the end of the War, this unit retired. In 1946 after the suggestion of Col. Andreas Kalinskis the first 40 independent LOK “Lohos Orinon Katadromon” (Mountain Commandos Company) formed.
    In 1949 the I and II Commandos Brigade was formed, and the E (5th) Commando Squadron also.
    The Brigade changed names several times, and finaly (1/1/2003) named 1st Paratroopers-Commando Brigade
    The men of the unit wear the Green Beret

    AMPHIBIOUS COMMANDO UNITS

    13th SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE



    In 22nd May 1988 under the Special Forces Directorate the 13th Amphibious Commando Regiment (13ο ΣΑΚ) was formed and after two months preparations it was tasked with the command of every active amphibious commando unit.In 2001 13th Amphibious Commando Regiment was regrouped in brigade form and renamed 13th Special Forces Directorate.
    The amphibious Commando units are
    A' MAK (A AMPHIBIOUS COMMANDO UNIT)
    Γ' MAK ( Γ AMPHIBIOUS COMMANDO UNIT)
    Z' MAK (Z AMPHIBIOUS COMMANDO UNIT)
    The Z' AMPHIBIOUS COMMANDO UNIT (Z'MAK) Is the ellite of the amphibious Commandos in Greece and was was formed as a rapid response unit.

    UNDERWATER DEMOLITION COMMAND (Diikisi Ypovrihion Katastrofon) is one of the Fleet Headquarters' Commands of Hellenic Navy.

    Objective
    To carry out intelligence gathering operations, unconventional warfare offensive operations against enemy's targets of naval interest using air, land and sea insertion methods.

    Command's Operations
    • Participation in embargo/peace-keeping missions
    • Providing protection to warships or Naval installations during periods of crisis against terrorist threat

    Social/Community Work
    • Search and rescue at sea
    • Assistance during natural disasters
    • Disposal of standardized ammunition in sea areas

    Historical Background
    • 1953 FIRST AMPHIBIOUS RECONNAISSANCE SQUAD IS FOUNDED
    • 1957-1968 UNDERWATER DEMOLITION TRAINING SCHOOL OPERATES IN 'KANNELOPOYLOS' TRAINING CENTER
    • 1968 UDT DIVISION ESTABLISHED IN SKARAMANGA
    • 1969 UDT DIVISION RENAMED TO UNDERWATER DEMOLITION UNIT (MYK)
    • 2002 UNDERWATER DEMOLITION UNIT RENAMED TO UNDERWATER DEMOLITION COMMAND (DYK)
