    It's the old 4,2in/107mm mortar. The board behind the saluting officer reads ' 'ΟΛΜΟΣ 4,7" Μ30' ', i.e. Mortar 4,7" M30...

    Because HAF started aquiring 3rd generation aircraft in the mid 80's, when the Cold War war still on (40 F-16C/D Block 30 and 40 Mirage 2000EG/BG).

    That choice meant that up until nowdays the backbone of our AF would consist of those two types, with only some used A-7Es and F-4Es being added in the 90's to our existing fleet of 2nd generation A-7Hs and F-4Es.

    Adding a russian type is surely a bad choice, given that our existing weapons and infastructure is in NATO standards.

    PS: I really amazed that they haven't yet standarised the E56 mortar. What's taking them so long?

    Yes my friend, there are 20 AH-64A+ in service since 1995; plus 12 AH-64DH (4 Longbows) scheduled for delivery from this year onwards. On a side note they are operated by the Hellenic Army Aviation branch, not the Hellenic Air Force.
