The world's an oppressive place to live through -yet with a little pride it's worth it

No, it's the corrupted name of ancient Skavala, a town from where settlers at the end of the 5th century BCE were resettled at Neapolis (=New City) and re-named the town Skavala. At Neapolis'/Skavala's harbour, Philippoe, Apostle Paul landed on his first voyage to Europe. His epistle to the Philippians was written for the Christian church in Neapolis/Skavala-Philippoe. In Byzantine era, the town was renamed Christoupolis (=Christ's City) yet after the 13th-14th c. the ancient name re-appears, but corrupted, as Kavala.
