I've got that same Bayonet (the top one), they seem to pop up all over the place for some reason, i think it's a Czech Bayonet but the book i found it in is out of reach for the moment.

The one on the top is a VZ-24 from 1948, made in Brno
the other is a German, no marks on the blade, only waffenambt stamps on top of it

Just got a Spyderco Cricket from www.knifecenter.com. They have many Spydies on sale, I think they are all discontinued models. The "etched" Cricket at $37.95 was a nice deal. The Cricket is a really, really nice knife. It is not an all-purpose knife but it could prove very useful in some situs.

I hope to get some photos done and then I'll post them here. Not only the Cricket but some others too.

Spydercos Cricket looks like the ultimate box opener. Some of the new Spydercos look great, just wish they didnt have to use liner locks on so many of them.

Here is a hunter i just finished. 1095 black linen micarta. Leather from JRE. Nice and ergonomic for long cleaning chores.

    Nice looking knife, Fork.
Great display w/ the shotgun, too.

(lookin' forward to see the anti-Vato device display: Glock, car keys, and ATM card?)

So I decided to buy one of the mantis knives just to see what they were all about and well its been mixed results. It's ok quality thought I'd say the finish and material aren't the best in terms of quality or practicality. All metal knife is not ideal in very cold weather and also the matte finish and coloring is never perfect even from factory. For the money you pay though you get a solid knife that you can basically beat up, though people might cringe since it is "gucci".

Another beauty... is the dip in the top for aesthetics or function?

Gents got a Mystery. A Bro from the old days sent me this pic of a apparently German Dress Bayonet. There are no Markings

It has features which look like the WWI Mauser bayonet

would like to know which nation, which era, what units might have used this and what it might be worth to him.

His Uncle brought this home in 1946 after being in 3rd Army and the initial occupation of Germany.

It's a German police/firefighter dress bayonet with a sawback, it was worn on special occasions,

Iīm helo pilot and looking for a small survival knife, with molle and boot clip. My first choice is ESEE (former-RAT) RC-3MIL-S. I donīt want a larger ASEK model as Ontario ASEK, ESEE RC-5 ou Gerber LMF II.

The Ontario RAT-3 is similar than RC-3, cheaper, D2 steel (RC-3 is 1095 steel), has no glass breaker in the pomme, a little smaller and lighter.

Can anyone advise me about both? Or another similar model.

    Thanks.

How do you know a pilot is present?

    Don't worry, he'll tell you.

    Couldnt resist.....

Anyway looks like you're looking for a combination of a rescue knife and survival knife. it appears you've done quite some research already have you thought of carrying two knifes ? One dedicated to getting rescue and one fixed blade for survival?

    For example this one:
    http://equipped.org/hinderer_rescue.htm

In the words outdoor and equipment expert of Dough Ritter:

    "
A large knife isn't an immediate indictment of someone's capabilities, but lack of a complementary small blade and a questionable choice for the large blade is something else."
