The Ontario RAT-3 is similar than RC-3, cheaper, D2 steel (RC-3 is 1095 steel), has no glass breaker in the pomme, a little smaller and lighter.

Can anyone advise me about both? Or another similar model.

    Thanks.
Have a look at the RAT Izula.

    Sir,

Indeed your Dad is a craftsman and a fine man. This is beautiful work, but more importantly, because it is from your Dad it will have a special place in your heart - a place that only you and your Dad can understand. This is the kind of gift that a man doesn't "own" - but rather cares for and uses until such time that you are fortunate enough to give to your son or daughter.

Please give my compliments to your Dad. All the best, C.

Good Sir, Sorry to take so long to respond - I just now saw your post. I think I spent $50 - $75 for the thing. I flat don't remember what it cost. To be candid, if (God forbid) I lost it, I'd pay $100.00 to replace it. It is perfect for me. Some have mentioned that the knife has opened: a. when dropped, or b. in the pocket. This has not happened to me, however, I have never dropped it, and I keep it (every day) in my left back pocket. (Keeping "priorities" in mind, I keep the sharp blade from the most "important" parts of my anatomy.") Good find!!! C

Thank you for the kind words ^^ And i agree. These kind of "gifts" are special, they cannot be measured, and you are bound to them. Makes me damn proud, and one day, as u said, i will be even more proud when i pass it on.

    X2 Sousuke, nice blade.

Kayaker, its a thumb dip, to try and make it more ergo for cleaning game. Definately not a bushcrafting knife, but you know the old saying, any knife is better than no knife in the bush.

Default Looking for a new knife...

Okay knife guys. I need some opinions.

I'm looking for a new folder. Preferably spring-assisted, but if not, definitely something easy to open one-handed. It should be a combo blade, with a pocket clip, (preferably reversible), and comfortable to hold.

I like liner locks, but I have no idea how a spine lock would work out. I'm wide open to ideas.

My budget is around $150, but I'm flexible.

I guess SOG, Spyderco, and Benchmade are at the top of my list for brands right now. Any experiences with some of their better knives that you care to list would be great. I'm especially interested in knowing about the AXIS-Lock system.

If You are looking for a spring-assisted combo, You should check those:
    Zero Tolerence 350ST
    Benchmade 913SD2 Nitrous Striker

Non assisted but with AXIS-lock which is also fast and easy to open, IMHO better than assisted liner-lock:
Benchmade 710S- 4" blade in relatively small handle.
Benchmade 520S Presidio- very comfortable handle, but it damages pockets. There is also Ultra-Presidio which seems to have much smoother handle, but I haven't handle it.

    Off the bat:

    Spyderco Stretch.

(without knowing any more specifics. Ie: intended uses, required blade length, et al.)

Blade length isn't too big a deal. Somewhere between that of a ninja sword and a Mini-SAK blade. Weight is another factor. Nothing specific, just not too heavy.

The use will vary, from outdoors stuff when I go up north, or box/package cutting for work, (actually, that's a big one). Self defense isn't really an issue, but it'd be good to have.

I love Spyderco. Might look into the Tenacious, or the Native (which is an extremely good knife, in a VERY handy size and shape, made out of insanely tough steel.), and both of them are very nicely priced for Spyders (though not assisted-open). The Para-military is also good, off the top of my head.

I've had one for a few years. Good little knife. Particularly like the adjustable-tension sheath.
