As a general basis, the beach is not a good place to take your weapon, more if you want to swim and nobody looks after the rifle. I had one hard discussion with an officier once about this.

You'd be surprised. 100m head shot from a silenced Ruger .22 is not beyond the realms of feasability. The IDF dont use them in that role, but capping a stone thrower in the lower leg is an effective and non-lethal way to make him wish he stayed at home.

I once read an interview with a doctor from an emergency room in Central Los Angeles who had to deal with gunshot wounds on a regular basis. That guy stated that .22 shootings were the probably the ones that were feared most (along with buckshot from a shogun) because the low energy causes the .22 rounds to zigzag inside the body and travel completely unpredictably.

It doesnt have the stunning effect of a rifle or powerful handgun, but a very surprising number of people shot in the torso with a .22 end up dead sooner or later, apparently.
