Pfff... i could easily find bad things to say about most units i served with, Givati included. generaly speaking, i didn't trust the infantry to watch my back when i was in the regular army. that's just the way it goes. i could also find good things to say about most of them.

About non infantry units doing raids, infantry ambushes etc'. well, we did those things during the peak of the intifada, in rather hot places. including a couple of guns blazing raids on a PA police staion (of course we brought a tank with us, which bombed the siht out of the building). in fact, i saw more infantry action when serving in an armor unit, then when i served in reserves in an infantry unit.

Although, i really don't think that it's something to boast about. it's quite bad actualy, since tankers need to serve in tanks and have no business doing that kind of things. same goes for other non-infantry combat units.

Nor is it good for infantry to be engaged in some of these policing-type activities. Counter-insurgnecy type operations is one thing, but some of the other stuff (and here I am thinking about Intifada I type riot-control and the like) is a waste.

Exactly what I told my CO when they told us to enter buildings, I don't mind the job, but would have been glad to get some training before, especially when after that they tell you that some OP's are only for some rovai when it is convenient.
