If it is, I can only shake my head at my country-of-origin (ROK) for not being able to go through the same or even half the effort, since a massive portion of ROK troops still are not issued such despite having state-of-the-technology vehicles, weapons systems and the like :/
The special forces have their own personal body armor. as for most of the field units, the armor belongs to the territorial brigades. so, if let's say a battalion is replacing another battalion in the Gaza border, they'll sign over the body armor.

Unless things have greatly changed in the regular army in recent years, that is.

Why would they have to use Suez to reach Israel?

I think that he was meaning, to reach the persian gulf (to position close to Iran).

But why would Egypt do such a thing? Relations are cooler since Morsi is out, and Al Sissi is pretty phobic with MB and their Hamas counterparts. Army is definitely back in Egypt, and they are the last people over there who look for troubles with Israel.

Agreed, nice gear, nice shahpodim, but still long-barrel M4s and old-school kavvanot hashlacha.
Perhaps Gadsar Tzanhanim or as you said, Duvdevan non-Mistarvim.

They could, but they don't. Because Egypt, especially under Sisi, does not want to help the Iranians.

Former head of the Navy basically said that if Egypt closed Suez to the IN they'd station 2 subs permanently in the Red Sea and keep the rest in the Med. Sea anyway. Israel is going to have 6 modern subs in service when all the purchases are done.

I wonder all the time about the following:
They constructed the so called Polinom Harbor at Haifa, including a rooftop hall for the Dolphin II.
Why not spend the effort to construct such a facility at Eilat (instead)?
It is more likely that Israel need these boats one day heading for Iran than in the Mediterian.
And using the Suez Channel simply means to send an email to the Iran "keep watching - we are coming"...
