this looks like a good compromise... alot of the ammo is outside the vehicle as well.IDF doctrine has no place for IFVs, tanks are "shooters" while APCs are "infantry taxi" used for transiting troops to (and inside) the combat zone under armour protection.
we had quite a few debates at fresh.co.il about the validity of this decision, as the namer is a good platform to carry a armored turret (at least for the fire support company). such turret by itself does not take space inside the vehicle, only it's ammo.
