Looking at the pictures it seems like its an AT mine field.
They probably knew that before they went in.. so sandals are not a necessity I guess.
    Thanks for the pics.

The sneakers made me wonder -- a couple years back I ran across an IDF study looking at the most cost-efficient way to treat foot problems and flattening of feet -- they decided custom orthotics and special boots were no more beneficial than store-bought orthotics that runners use in their running shoes (an article that saved me several hundred bucks). Is there any chance guys wearing sneakers could have a medical reason?

many soldiers wear sneakers while they wait for an appointment with a doctor who will send them to get othotic in-soles for their boots. A lot of soldiers wear the sneakers to be 'rebels'. They hate the army and they take advantage of everything they can to be 'different' and possibly give them an easier time while they devise other ways to get out of the army.

I thought this should be done with an explosive brick or even two of them...
The number 4 is not much more then a small regular "לבנה" except the plastic box. It's not a shrapnel mine.

    Hi Rroy,
Any half-decent army mixes anti-personel mines with anti-tank mines. Its standard operating procedure.
    cheers

When I got my boots they really tore the **** out of my feet, whenever I pulled my leg out and let it relax I felt my foot was smashed by concrete making it perfectly straight..one trip home later I stopped in central bus station and bought some expensive orthotics..I think it was over 200 NIS..ever since then my boots are real treat to my legs except in hot days when you get these damm skin rashes.

    Thanks.
Than I guess they should have went in there with the sandals.
Well, clearing old minefields is always a dangerous business.

It's hard to step over large rocks and work on uneven surfaces with the sandals, they might lose balance and fall.

Has to be Golani though, since I know the person in the center.
Is that the new assault rifle? What is it, the "Tovar" I think? Looks cool. What ever happened to the Galil's? All the recent photos I've seen with the IDF, they all have had M-16 Series weapons. Was the Galil not very popular?

Yes, its the new assault rifle called Tavor, or TAR-21.
The Galil was phased out but you can still find him(upgraded versions) in reserves.
