Yup, and the beautiful summer camp of Shivta, if I remember correctly the tent camp in the middle of nothing.![]()
is there any pictures of the aliya brigade which was formed earlier this decade (i believe)
theres not alot of info about them on the web but iv read alot of them are ex spetznas and fought in chechnya and afghanistan
are you sure?
i watched a documentry filmed about them and it was pre 2006 so rather old but they had their own badge, they went on their own patrol, they had their own office
after all they serve as one unit
also if they were just a social movement i dont think they would have idf uniform, m16, uzi, sniper rifles and all other infantry kit
i dont really know though what sepereates a social movement from a military unit at least not in israel
No, there was definitely an article in Yediot Achronot (Top israeli newspaper) around the time of the 2006 Lebanon War that spoke about the "Aliya Brigade" fighting Hezzies in Southern Lebanon. It said that they were all Russian Snipers who fought in Chechnya and Afghanistan in the 90's.
Ill see if I can find it.

Is there confusion between a unit 1) comprised of olim (immigrants), and 2) the term aliyah (immigrant) brigade? There are some units that have a high number of olim, and are known as olim units. So, the misnomer of an aliyah brigade is plausible.
For example, my nahal tironut (basic) mahlaka (platoon) was only olim, even the mem-kafim (sargeants) were olim. As we went through our maslul (steps)through the IDF, the original group of olim was substantially diluted, but the platoon was always referred to as the platoon of olim.
