We were holding that Kav when it happened, my outpost was 5 minutes driving from Itamar. Horrible f*cking feeling all around, when we were jumped in the middle of the night for the first minutes we all believed it's another exercise that were very frequent in that time. The amount of forces that swamped Awarta afterwards was insane.

Blood boils each time I read about it.

    I know the feeling.
Got hakpatza'd there from the south in the middle of that Friday night and was there for a few days afterwards. Probably the worst few days I've ever had emotionally wise.

Apperantly fresh reservists from the 7th and 188th brigades, are being converted to Magach tanks...

    OK. first of all... MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111

Now, I would argue that the army's logic is lacking with having me, a former Magach'nic, being converted to infantry, while former Merkavists are being converted to Magach - if I wouldn't rather bite myself to death before i'll go back to serving on one of those things myself.

So, all I got to say is, have fun!

So, serious question. Why are they using those when we've already seen photos of Merkavot lined up in rows as surplus? Is the Magach 7 superior to a Merk. II Baz? I'm assuming they haven't laid up any IIIs and IVs.

I was to ask myself the same question, but I lost all the hope to try to find logic where in my experience, often, is none.

It's absolutely barking mad. The Magach 7d struggles with the weight of its armour and is not the same class as Merkava 2s.. Really, don't understand this..........

Total utter speculations, but dollars to donuts (pun intended), this is a result of fiscal policy and relates to US FMF funding.

Are you sure the Merkava we saw were mk.2?
As long as I remember they were mk.1 and the IDF has few of them.

    1. As others have noted, the tanks in question where Mk1s, mostly cannibalized for parts. In essence, its scrap metal.
    2. The advantages of early variants of Mk2 over 7d are debatable. It maybe cheaper to scrap them and keep 7d in service a few more years, then to upgrade them to the Mk2D variant.
