As I have pointed out already, Israel of today isn't the Israel of 1948.

Considering the fact that you yourself agree that the unit was created mainly to serve as PR, you bringing up the War of Independence all of a sudden seems silly to me... sorry.

One of the most important things in a soldier male or female is the level of motivation. I have seen soldiers who had the ability to be professional athletes give up and beg to go home. I have also seen those with serious physical limitations push on past their limits.

this M113 ( or has it a different name? ) is very interesting for me as an "old" M113-signals-platoon-leader.
What is the purpose of it ? Are that AA or anti-tank rocket-launchers on top ?

The system and the unit deploying it were considerd top secret untill recently.

I agree with the sentiment that soldering like most anything else is mainly a mental matter. I too have many personal anecdotes where the seemingly toughest/biggest/cockiest guys failed to dig deep to complete a challenge.

I know the feeling, I was doing a night ambush, when I was supposed to go on my hafshash in the morning. I still had dirt on my face when I got on the bus home.
