Default The Vietcong and the NVA

Here's various pictures of the Vietcong , North-Vietnamese army and various irregulars from the 1960's and 1970's. It isn't much but you'll get the idea of what 'Charlie' looked like back then when he was still the enemy of the day.

A mine is being placed. Let's see if anyone of you can identify that rifle !

Females of the Vietcong acting as "color guard" during the Hanoi victory parade. As you can see , one of the soldiers is a carrying an M1 Carbine.

Sampans , a comfortable and most of all quiet way to move around.

    VC 81mm mortar.

The Russian RPD - machineguns were often "more valuable than gold" to the VC/NVA - units. You can all guess that difference one of them made especially when reflected upon the scarse weaponry the VC had at it's disposal sometimes.

    Captured American weaponry.

The other side might've had Huey's and whatever else but the VC traveled by four legs..

    RPG-team.

    Bayonet course.

A group of VC inspecting the wreckage of a UH-1 Huey.

Vietcong officers gather around to receive orders deep in the jungles. Such meetings were often numerous due to the lack of radios.

A small group of Vietcong riflemen at their position.

    Attack !

The feared "men in black Pyjamas".

The VC attack airplanes on the ground directly.

    The VC have a meeting.

Some sort of a lecture/political rally for the NVA/VC - troops.

A message to the Americans is being written on the front armor of a knocked-out M113.

    A battalion-sized force of VC.

A whole battalion of NVA on the move.

    They got their victory.

Perhaps I'm helping you guys out way too much here by telling that the rifle in the first pic does come from the same country as the SKS does (not a surprise really when considering Charlie's choice of weapons) . Although , to tell you the truth , I'm not quite sure what rifle it is in the first place.

Who knows , it might be one of em' SKS's.. I was hoping one of you could guess it.

    .. Getting closer , huh ?
I know that you know that I know the answer. But the difficulty is knowing what version it is, and I have no idea about that.

I like the man in the middle of the last picture. AK, 120 rounds of ammo and I guess two handgrenades, all it takes to win a war

.. Damn , I was hoping to be able to keep the secret for awhile. But you people guessed it alright.

It's a Mosin-Nagant. And by the looks of it , might be a M44 Mosin-Nagant for that matter. Although I'm not quite sure.

Maybe guys like REMOV here can make the final inspection and tell us how it is.

Interesting last pic though, looks like an American AT grenade mounted on a M44. It figures since both rifles have the same bore size.

Sure , although they're a bit of a mixed bunch.

Now these guys are definite NVA with their Khaki uniforms and pith helmets.

    The NVA attacks.

The NVA's version of the famed "MASH".

The GI's rode choppers and M113's , Charlie walked.

A large cache of weapons has just changed hands , it seems.

Hard to say if they're VC or NVA. Might be a mixed photo (btw , notice the guy on the corner with the Thompson).

    War trophy.

A definite 1970's pic of the NVA.

Thanks , Lenin , I'll search for it since I'm pretty damn interested of any Vietnam - era pictures concerning both sides of the conflict.
