It's my understanding that African Americans in SOF is a rare thing indeed. Something about how they aren't good swimmers (required for all SOF). Not that they don't exist, but there's not a whole lot of pics as a result.

Yes black people arent good swimmers, just like they cant be pilots because of there sickel cells. *roll eyes*
Its not that they arent good swimmers like you said, its that proportionately, black people aren't exposed to water as often, as the majority of black people live in urban areas. That does not make them bad swimmers, and is most likely not the reason why there aren't so many black people in the Special Forces. Look at the number of Latinos in the special forces. How many Latinos do you know that are exposed to water more often than black people?
The reason being is probably not to do with their swimming ability as a race, like you said, but more to do with their exposure in society to this type of activity.
Im not saying you intentionally meant to say that, but i am just re-stating what you probably meant to say, in a more understanding and less stereotypical manner.

Guys, the reason why you don't see a lot of non-white people in the special forces is because of...
    simple math

How many non-white people join the US Military?
How many want to go into Special Ops?
How many qualify for special operations
How many pass the courses, etc

The number gets smaller an smaller as you keep going. Theres a lot more white people in the US an in the US Military, etc, so theres going to be a higher percentage of white people in the different branches of the US Military.

That whole their poor swimmers, not smart, etc because of their race is BS.

Well I'm Hispanic, I've been swimming very well since I was five, and I have straight A's.

    That logic is bullshiz.

Half the U.S Army can be classified as a minority in the United States. In the Marine Corps, one in every three is a minority. Minorities make up a siginificant portion of the U.S military. (roughly about 35-30% I think)

So, when you say that there's a lot more white people in the U.S military.....you're wrong.

YES, blacks DO perform poorly in swim quals. That's because they probably never had a chance to swim in a pool their entire lives. And YES, some don't have the GT score to go to SFAS or BUDs or whatever the hell they want to go into.

MANY aren't in combat related MOS's. (infantry, armor, etc). Maybe that's why Special Forces or something else doesn't seem like a good idea for them.

Theres still more white people than blacks in the US Military.

Doing poor on swim quals because they've never swam before has nothing to do with race(as I an others already said), same with doing poorly on tests.

Anyways, I don't really care either way, so I'm not going to try to argue anything.

Thats right, but it does have an impact on them getting into the SF.

I don't know why you lot are arguing, you're saying the same things!

This is about the Special Forces right? There is only ONE Special Forces, and they're in the Army. About 35% of the Army is black. Even if they're are a smaller population than than the whites, the Special Forces community is still not represented well enough by the blacks in the Army. Only about 5% is minority. Even less is black.

Thanks for repeating what I said.

I read in a book that African-Americans naturally have a low body percent fat making them negativly buoyant, so makes swimming a bit harder, especially if your going for combay profession wearing lots of gear.
