Thanks for answering my Q, Thor. The symbol on the front of the half-track looked like Wiking's, but I didn't think that division was involved in the defense of Berlin (even though their one-time commander, Felix Stiener, was being relied upon by Hitler to attempt a breakout of the Soviet encirclement).

It's similar. Both Nordland and Wiking were meant to have a specific Nordic connection so they (or probably Hitler as he used to micro manage these things) used a more circular swastika, which is the most common one in Nordic mythology.

My non-english source says this about Nordland's whereabouts:
On their way back over the Teltow channel Nordland was attacked in the back by Russian armour which caused great casualties. The remainders of the division gathered around the Berlin city core for the end battle.

Nordland managed to inflict heavy casualties on the Soviet forces during the bitter fighting around the Reichtag building on April 27-30. During these last days the division was put under the command of Kampfgruppe Mohnke, lead by SS-Brigadeführer Wilhelm Mohnke who received his orders straight from Hitler.

On April 30, after having received the message of Adolf Hitler's death, the Division Commander Krukenberg ordered the remainders of Nordland to break out and save themselves from Soviet captivity.
This is an old thread. I just realized I replied to it in a similar way earlier on.

Such orders which right now I don't remember the names of the people who issued them but I can give them to you some other time, included stuff like "Have you killed a German today? If not kill one soon!Kill kill kill!"or
"Don't feel pity, the Germans are not human.Take revenge for the motherland"etc.

Orders from Stalin and ministers were issued that had such words inside. So you can imagine a Soviet soldier who has been poor all his life, exhausted, brought from the other side of the Soviet Union, tired of all these years of communism seeing a chance to loot and plunder and have "fun" with noone telling him anything and on the contrary listening to his superiors tell him to kill and do whatever he wants freely...then....you can imagine what can happen when such a guy goes to Berlin.
Sources please. The only ideology that had humans and sub-humans was the nazi one.

The soviet army was just a bad, if not even worse, than any nazi force. The whole eastern front was a hellhole with atrocities from BOTH sides.

But don't EVER try to fool anyone with your BS. The commie red army was simply another evil horde from the east, invading Europe seeking to rule, loot and rape.
Yes, the Axis was obviously trying to save and protect Europe from communist tatar-jew untermeschen.

Please don't stir up something with quotes from an over 2 year old thread.

Go read some russian history book if you want that pro-russian info you're used to. And for koutch, if you want to grab quotes feel free do so from the apologetics/deniers. But like I said, I'm not going to continue a discussion based on random quotes from a 2 year old inflammatory thread.

    Post pics/info and contribute instead.

My family was living in Lwow before WWII. They could try both - nazi occupation and soviet occupation. My grandmother told me, that there were no big differencies between these two armies. Both were wild beasts.

I can understand how you Germans and Russians/former Soviets can have deep emotions about what happened in WWII, but if you don't quit the political/historical arguments, this thread will get locked by the mods.
I think you ought to just "agree to disagree" and move on.

Then perhpas Soviet livs shouldn't have been wasted on the Polish populace. The 600,000 dead directly because of the Polish campaighn could have been spared. And people like you wouldn't be arround todasy to bitch about Soviet occupation.
