Pics like these are great, that punk doesn´t look so tough now without his trucker hat, piece and his friends. What did he do anyway? I suppose the police considered him to be armed and dangerous to call in Piketen equipped like that.

Piketen for you non-Swedes. Units in larger cities with ordinary police officers patrolling, usually in squads and they are specially trained to handle a little more demanding situations than ordinary police officers. I guess they could be called SWAT simply. Piketen was formed in 1979 after a hostage situation when the West-german embassy in Stockholm was attacked by Palestinian gunmen.

Rigorous saftey measures during football game in Malmö. The Israeli team Maccabi Haifa met Malmö FF at Malmö Stadium. Maccabi Haifa stayed at the Hilton in central Malmö and the whole area was cordoned off by heavily armed police. When the team had boarded the bus they were escorted by a large number of police vehicles. Photos by: Jens C Hilner, Mats Hansson 20050727.


An armed man was arrested around 18:00 on Hallingsgatan in Malmö. The man had barricaded himself in a flat and threatened to shoot anyone who came close. The police was sent to the scene in force including Piketen [SWAT equivalent]. After negotiations with the police the man could be arrested. Photos by: Mats Hansson, Jens C Hilner 20050514.

Looks like the arrested guy was a gangmember and they can be pretty dangrous.

Nice to see that Sthlm's piketen/swat gets some credit for once.
Usually Nationella insatsstyrkan/ National SWAT gets all credit.

Uhmm NI doesn't get all the credit... Piketen gets a fair amount of credit as well.
