For this they used the budgetted money for replacement uniforms, the Dutch armed forces wore OD at that time, from the navy budget. When the other branches of the Dutch armed forces went with a Dutch variant of DPM the marines had no money to change the uniform again. They were stuck with the US uniforms and simply decided to sew on epaulettes for the rank insignia. When money became available for them to change to Dutch DPM they declined and used the money to upgrade other equipment instead.
Sometime after 2015 the whole armed forces will change to a single pattern/model, testing for this new uniform is carried out now.

x2. That helps alleviate alot of the confusion I had as to why there were such different uniforms.

HOLY ****! They would never show that kind of police stand off here in America! Good job by the snipers in dispatching the criminal, though.

I've been saying that for awhile now. It'd get the point across that messing with law enforcement isn't some game, as many tend to think it is..

They played this over a good few times on the evening news (night before last), and had a phone in opinion poll - 99.9% of the comments were along the lines of "well done police sniper", "one less bandido", "good riddance!"
Boyo had already been jailed twice for illegal arms and robbery. He'd already had the pin out the grenade twice, so the sniper chose his moment well.
    Nice shot btw!
