The problem with crossbows is that they rely on the feather or plastic flechings to stabilize their bolts. The wind will affect to a great degree their flight path.
Putting optics on them is like a joke, if you have 5 m/s crosswind and aim strait to the bullseye of at 60 cm target at 50 mts away, you will miss the whole target at once and by far! Also the 'twang' they make when fired isn't much different in decibels that a sub-sonic bullet fired with a suppressor.

No idea rarely, may be for some specific situation!Im with you on the disadvantage of the weapon, but SF seams to train with it.
To Lobo>Im glad you find this amusing but that pic came in connection with operation Storm and that pic surface after
I rarely didnt wont to upset anyone so please dont ruin this tread and enyoj the photos.
I would not want to be hit with an arrow. I could have killed by neighbour twice after accidentally shooting it onto his side of his property.
Yeah i also saw a few more pics of sf training with crossbows, from what i understand arows from compounds and crossbows will go thru kevlar, and it doesnt make a flash, where subsonic amunition needs a headshot for taking out the target. Any more reply`s will be nice![]()
Guns even with silencers tend to make noise. Crossbows tend to make a lot less noise and the noise that is made by them is not as recognizable as a weapon fired.
Greek SF use them when securing beachheads since they can be "loaded" underwater, pop up shoot the sentry, and get underwater without any delay (relatively speaking).
Depending on the crosbow you can get good distances.
Composite materials used on arrows have good penetrating abilities.
Countries that are know to use crossbows within the SF are: Greece, Russia, Peru, Brazil, Serbia, China, Turkey.
