Few words about structures, our bes units:

25 Brygada Kawalerii Powietrznej / 25th Air Cavalry Brigade
    (Tomaszów Mazowiecki - about 70 chopters - Mi-17 and W-3W)
    - 7 Batalion Kawalerii Powietrznej / 7th Air Cavalry Battalion
    Airmobile infantry
    - 1 Batalion Kawalerii Powietrznej / 1st Air Cavalry Battalion
    Airmobile infantry
    - 11 Batalion Kawalerii Powietrznej / 11th Air Cavalry Battalion
    Airmobile infantry

    6 Brygada Desantowo-Szturmowa / 6th Assault Brigade
    (Kraków)
    - 16 Batalion Powietrzno-Desantowy / 16th Airborne Battalion
    Paratroopers
    - 6 Batalion Desantowo-Szturmowy / 6th Assault Battalion
    light Infantry on HMMWVs
    - 18 Batalion Desantowo-Szturmowy / 18th Assault Battalion
    light Infantry on HMMWVs

10 Brygada Kawalerii Pancernej / 10th Armored Cavalery Brigade
(Świętoszów) 58 combat vehicels in each battalion
    - 1 Batalion Czołgów / 1st Tank Battalion
    Leopard 2 A4
    - 2 Batalion Czołgów / 2nd Tank Battalion
    Leopard 2 A4
    - 10 Batalion Zmechanizowany / 10th Mechanized Battalion
    BMP-1

21 Brygada Strzelców Podhalańskich / 21st Tatra Highlanders Brigade (Mountain Brigade)
    (Rzeszów)
    - 1 Batalion Strzelców Podhalańskich / 1st Tatra Highlanders Battalion (Mountain Battalion)
    light Infantry on HMMWVs
    - 5 Batalion Zmechanizowany / 5th Mechanized Battalion
on BMPs, will be rearmed to KTO "Rosomak"
    - 1 Batalion Czołgów / 1st Tank Battalion
on T-72s, will be rearmed to KTO "Rosomak"

    17 Brygada Zmechanizowana / 17th Mechanized Brigade
(Międzyrzecz) The first one to be rearmed to KTO "Rosomak"
    - 3 battalions on KTO "Rosomak" - don't know their exact names because of reorganization - when I'm writing this unit should have about 100 Rosomak Vehicles.

    12 Brygada Zmechanizowana / 12th Mechanized Brigade
(Szczecin) Situation same as above - Mechanized brigade on T-72s (one battalion - 40 tanks) and BMPs (two battalions - 2x40 IFV) reorganized to light Wheeled platform (three battalions on KTO "Rosomak"). Each battalion will have 62 vehicles (53 of combat versions).

    What about other units?
Most of hem still is using ex-Warsaw Pact equipment and structures (BMP/T-72/PT-91). Typical Armored Cavalry Brigade has two Battalions of tanks (2 x 40 of T-72 or PT-91) and one battalion of IFV (40 of BMP-1), typical Mechanized Brigade has one tank battalion and two IFV battalions (same number of vehicles in battalion).

Because large number of equipment will be recaptured (all T-72s, some BMP-1) some of units will be discounted. Rest will be reorganized to 52/58 vehicles in battalion (current standard is 40 vehicles).

There is no chance for new tanks before 2015. We spend lot of money for F-16, Spike, KTO “Rosomak” programs, and when we pay for them there are even more programs waiting for money – tactical transport copter, PZA Loara, mid range AA (PZR Loara), long range AA (Patriot), more F-16 (48 its not enough), replace for Mi-24 and on, and on, and on.

P.S. If you have found some mistakes - PM me so i will correct them.

He used to be an international corespondent for the "Spectator" and "The Observer" during the Afghan War (86-89), and an advisor to Rupert Murdoch. The person with the most interesting past in the new polish gov.

I would translate it as "21st Mountain Rifles Brigade" or "21st Tatra Highlanders Brigade"

Międzyrzecz. I live in the same region, where this city is located.

I know that whole brigade has some training in parachute jumping (they barrow copters from 25 brigade and from our two Regiments of Combat Helicopter) but:
    - We have only 8 CASA C295M transport aircrafts (13.Eskadra Lotnictwa Transportowego) that operates from Kraków-Balice Air Base, this is not enough to transport a battalion (so stop talking about airborne brigade), An-26 will be recaptured soon, I really don't know how many of them is able to fly now (they are form 1971-73).
    - 18th battalion has received HMMWVs this year and 6th will receive them in 2006 - we have no copter nor plane that is capable to transport HMMWV (I know it's a pity).
    - there is no chance to that we will receive new equipment, in fact we will have a problem to keep current numbers of copters (there is about 25 Mi-8 and 24 Mi-24D copters that need replacement over next 5 years).
So making this brigade airborne is someones wet dream that has nothing to do with reality.
