Yes, Strelas and Iglas are fired regularly, but what about Strela S-10CRO or BOV 30/2? Their video or photo material is not so available, is it!

I wonder how long it is going to take for the entire ground forces to be equipped with the new camo.. probably for another year or so..

Our air-defense needs modernization and news systems as soon as possible. We still use only low-range heat-guided missiles like strela and igla. That's terrible guys! We can say we have one of the best and strongest radars in south-western Europe FPS-117 but I don't what's their purpose ? we must buy some new radar-guided missile systems like Russian Buk,Tor or Pantsir.I don't believe there would be problems with buying Russian AA system medium-range because Greece already has TOR M-1.Our country with 88 000 km2 of its territory with and a lot of islands isn't that small to say "we don't need medium-range radar guided AA systems.Achh situation is terrible however you look...no fighter jets no modern AA...I don't know why we even bought those strong FPS-117 radars...also it's impossible to imagine air-force without AA support from the ground...I don't know what our MOD and politicians did whole decade since 2000,they fu*ked bitches or what ?.I can't believe that in 10 years we couldn't buy or new jets or some new modern AA systems.TERRIBLE! JUST TERRIBLE! also when you remember how our mafia fu*ked deal of procurement S-300 you just become mad! but mafia had to stole money of course, why would Croatia has s-300 right ?.......and of course a lot of millions went for nothing...

This is what we need if we wan't to say that we have some "army" and if we wan't to say that we're just a little bit "serious" country.

The "mafia" is not the problem. Simply put it ,the military is the last thing to spend money on and the first to take money off , if you look the planned budget spending 2010-2013 ,the military is again at the end of the list , everyone who knows Croatian politics, if Josipović is worried about current condition of AF then things are really bad.

Croatia had only parts of the S-300(the tubes and the missiles) which we gave to Israel as I recall. We also had the SSC-3 Styx anti-ship missile system that was stationed at Vis in the time of the SFRJ, but it was sold to Egypt I think.

Josipovic yesterday proposed that Croatia should modernize the Migs we have Good thing he does not have control over the budget. The thing that really bothers me is what Gott said that we had 10 years before the economic crisis to procure modern military equipment from AA systems to air force to the ground forces and yet they did nothing. This Economic crisis is just another alibi for the government for reasons not to spend on the military.

Lets try being optimistic, Josipović expressed his doubts in "solving" the fighter problem with modernizing outdated jets, so he probably supports new jets. Personally, MiGs could still work if modernized to 21-2000 standard by Israel. That's Python 4 and 5 compatibile, Derby BVR compatibile, precision guided munitions etc. Problem is, the politicians by modernization think of sticking a NATO IFF and radio into the jets, and I don't know if that even qualifies as an upgrade.

I agree about AD systems, and personally I think we need a three tier integrated air defense system: acquire 5-7 adittional Strijela-10 CROs, or agument the existing units with the same umber of Pantsir S1s. Then a few years later, buy 4-6 batteries of SPYDER medium range SAM. Finally, as the long range missile system I would pick 2-4 batteries of S-400 Triumf.

QUOTE, let's be real and don't mess things up, one things it was wartime in which Croatia had to acquire weapons trought smugglers and person like Zagorec (that in reality made a good work, only stealed a lot for himself, but this is how these things work EVERYWHERE also in the legal market, in which the blue envelope is istitutionalized), another it is today budget in which it is not more possible to steal defence's money, because there is not more money!

About the lack of a credible (all round) air defence , it is effectively the greatest lack in defence modernization plan, but probably Army want Short- to Medium (that yust have), Aviation want fighters and a real anti -air missile defence it is very, very costly !

Not exactly, the purchases of the VHS assault rifle from first batch (1000 rifles contracted in two versions ca. 300 VHS-K carbine and ca. 700 VHS-D assault rifle) was stopped after some 1000 were delivered. The Croatian MOD has a problem with the left handed shooters, so the rifle has to be redesigned by the HS Produkt to meet Croatian army requirements.

Croatia still has that parts and it's just a myth that those parts were given to Israel or USA.We still have launchers and missiles but the problem is Croatia doesn't have systems for guidance for S-300.Yea it was some kind of "public secret"...don't worry all parts of S-300 that we had are still in Croatia although without complete system you can put booth launchers and missiles in ass.

If we still have them they will remain useless because the Russian's probably won't sell the guidance system of one of the worlds most effective anti-air system to a NATO country
