So, according to Večernji list our defense minister, distinguished officer in Homeland War, stated that owning fighter jets are huge obligations and expensive toys and that some NATO members do not have its own fleet (Luxembourg, Baltic countries, Bulgaria ).
First, Luxembourg is way too small to own its fighters, Baltic states probably regret now that they didn't invest in their own fighters - and from where did Kotromanović concluded that Bulgaria does not have its own combat air force..

For saying that nonsense he should have shot himself in leg with one of those HS pistols. Just to wake up.
Not to mention that he regards fighters like toys.
I wonder if he had such opinion in 1995. in western Bosnia about Mi24 Hind gunships.

Vecernji is misquoting him. He sad that Bulgaria is THINKING about renouncing it's fighter component. Also Vecernji is far to optimistic about future of AF. If you watched Kotromanovic – it was all we WOULD like to keep, we would so much like that but ..etc. The man sounded like father that has just lost his job and is explaining his son that there will be no Christmas gifts this year. At one moment the pitch of his voice, and expressionon his face looked like he is about to cry. It was very sad to watch. He sad no movement on fighters of ANY sort this year, decision PROBABLY next year (announcement of shutting down). Anyone who watched the interview has no doubt - we just lost the air force. So sad.

Then he is critically misinformed about Bulgaria.
Just last month they've decided to prolong resources on 4-6 MiG 21s that will together with MiG 29 serve until introduction of new or "second hand" fighters.
Baltic countries have obligation to form their own air-forces, until then they have foreign protection of airspace.

I've just seen the HRT Dnevnik 3 and didn't get your impression about losing air force.
And bear in mind that Croatia is the one of two countries of former Yugoslavia that has combat jets.
The other one is dedicated and for some time will be dedicated to neutrality outside of NATO.

So that regional air policing over Adriatic Charter countries (HR, BiH, MNE, even ALB) and maybe even Slovenia can and hopefully will be done by renewed HRZ as most significant NATO member between Alps and Drina river.

Main issue with all our governments is the consecutive stand about missions abroad. Everything is subordinated to them.
Seems that ISAF is the paramount and core role of OSRH. All is directed and dedicated towards Afghan and in some small extent to OUN operations like Golan.

Constitutional role of OSRH is on the other hand being sadly disregarded.
Their capacity of control, protection and defense of national land, air and sea is today on similar level as it was in early 1992.
Back then we also had only ground force, miniscule navy and two-three operational fighter jets (defectors from JNA).

ISAF will not last for ever. And then what? EU battle-groups?

For the "Spot the difference!" contest:
There is something new also in that new version of spiral developing VHS, guess it.

(I'm referring here to the rifle in itself, not about accessories)

Looks like the carrier handle is removable, otherwise that Picatinny rail right behind it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, our military industry has exported over $110 millions worth of arms and equipment in 2011. Hopefully, we'll see an increase next year.

Maybe that rail is there to combine with some domestic night vision attachment that will come in future. Magnifier is not a option because that sight has built in magnifier 1.5 to 3 x.

Anyway more Good News! New Police boat 3rd of its kind.I think that we just must wait for the full contract of 28 police boats to be done and than will see similar bean done for Coast Guard and Navy.

This was followed by two years the great crisis in the global economy, and consequently, have considerably reduced the military budget for the procurement of military equipment which will be the case with the 2012th

Defender.hr has published three new articles.
First one is above the sending of 14 Patria armed with konsberg turret to an exercise in Germany.

Seems there still some problem with british made communication ecquipment from UK, but not so big to endanger partecipation to said exercise.
    http://www.defender.hr/republika-hrv...m-krstenju.php

    Second one are good news:
This year's biggest operative meeting of NATO staff commander would be held in Zagreb 18-20 of may, immediately following the summit of Nato nations in Chicago.
    http://www.defender.hr/republika-hrv...rzane-u-rh.php

Way less good the thirth one: it seems that presentation of long term development p0lan for armed forces is in strong delay, with negattive effect on the armed forces operativity.
    http://www.defender.hr/republika-hrv...na-razvoja.php

About that last one, you have however to consider that the recent signing of production contract for second batch of VHSes and for individual ecquipment would hopefull ease situation, almost for this year on.
