Its surprising Baghdad was captured by the US in a few days.
If the Iraqi army really defended Bagdad, it would look something like this.
Nice video.
I've just ripped a documentary called 'Story of a War' and thought some of the footage might appeal to the rest of you.
The picture quality of the tape isn't great but the footage is pretty good.

nice clip, and for the iraqui army to fight like this they would have to totally destroy the US air superiority, they fought like this because the armour was there to give them the extra punch, and there was no gunships wrecking hell among the attackersOriginally Posted by Dervish

Hi "AceoFBase"
Thanks for posting this video clip. I would be very interested to see more of this old documentary, filmed from invading Iraqi Army side point view.
Anymore clips from same documentary or link to torrent would be great.
BTW, for those who might be interested in Historical aspect, to set the location and events shown in video clip, are Iraqi Army Units involved in Battle to capture Iranian Port City of Khorramshahr, located in oil rich southern province of Iran during Saddam invasion around Sep\Oct 1980.
Original Iraqi plan was for one Battalion (the 8th) from Iraqi Army 33rd Special Forces Bde to attack and quickly enter Khorramshahr on 1st day of war. The second Battalion from same unit was to follow in Reserve and complete the fall of city.
Needless to say to original attack meet heavy resistance on border, attack and counter attacks saw Iraqi army spend 10 days just reach outskirts of City. Even then neither the Iranian soldiers or local people and those mobilising from all over Iran and moving to region in anyway they could were giving up. Hence the battle would expand and intensify into heavy urban fighting for streets, buildings, that would last for 34 days !
The intense fighting in "Khorramshahr" (Called "Mohamareh" by invading Saddam Iraqi Army) was to entangle more than what Iraqi war planners had expected and as result unit after unit of Armour, infantry and then special Forces and commando's had to be detached from various parent units and transferred south for fighting to force the city capture.
The video clip I expect shows the Iraqi Special Forces Bde troops during the bitter street fighting.

Did you see that one room filled with snipers? Holy hell.
Good god, it looks like it must of been terrible to be there.
Thanks for sharing the footage.
I'll PM you with the torrent link and I'll try to post some more clips later today.Originally Posted by F-14A
I have to warn you though, this documentary is biased towards the Iraqi side, viewing Iran as the aggressor, whereas the other documentary I posted last month showed Iraq as the aggressor.
I think this was made back in 1989 when Saddam was still an ally so I guess that's why the took his side. They didn't even mention the chemical weapons attacks.
Here's the link to my earlier thread on the 'Wars in Peace' documentary:

Indeed very good observation on strange commentary in this documentary. EXAMPLE In the clip the commentator is still using the original clip from early month invasion to say Iraqi Army smashed the March 1982 Iranian offensive (sorry but back on Planet Earth during same time Iran launched Operation "Fath-Al-Mobin" which resulted in famous 15,000 Iraqi POW, and destruction and capture of some 700 x MBT \ APC and capture of almost 200 Artillery pieces that threw Iraqi Army out of Dezful region)
Please note Iraqi troops upon entry into Khorramshahr painted in Arabic Slogans "We come to Stay Forever" on people houses ......... however we know what happened to Saddam dreams.
I hope one day I recover a video clip shown in west where only the Camera survived from TV crew and reporters that were accompanying Iraqi troops during visit to River crossing over Karun ....... back in 1980 the TV News reporter said the person and everyone in vicinity was KIA ...... you saw in clip F-4 passing by ........... then what was for sure CLUSTER BOMBS and Bomb lets exploding everywhere until film stopped .......
The Iraqi PMP bridge was taken out by Iranian Army Aviation AH-1 cobra and Iranian Air Force F-4 several times. However as it was a PMP type, you hit a section, as the entire bridge is made up of lots independent sections it can be easily replaced and repaired.
At time a force of one Iranian Arm Div, along with attachments from other units I region amounting to about one Arm Bde were all alone fighting across a 400 Km battle front where Iraqi Army Invaded using 3 x Arm Div, Plus 2 x Mech Div, plus various Ind SF, Arm, Inf Bde. So Iranian Army Aviation and Iranian Air Force had their hands full to put it mildly, but the pre 1979 US training of withstanding mass soviet era armour assaults worked with extra help of volunteers to stop Iraqi Army.
Below in return a short clip from other sides point view.

NOTES
- Sometime in Oct 1980, inside Iranian Port City of Khorramshahr, with city defenders, a mix of Army, Navy, Gendarme, IRGC, Volunteers who defending the city against Iraqi Army trying very hard to break into city.
- This clip is taken "Masjed-Jameh" (Jameh mosque) and you see exchange fire near this site which was used as one RESISTANCE points for defenders of city (Field Hospital, supply depot for Food, water, ammo)
- The city was to resist for 34 days under constant assault, in video you hear someone say shoot at rooftops were Iraqi snipers were firing from ...... also visible around corner in simple pickup trucks defenders moved across city to reinforce sections under attack
- In First 3 days of Fighting alone 480 x Iranian’s Civilians perished in city under onslaught of Iraqi Army whom attacked the City with large aircraft formation attacks (15), and mass Artillery fire to try discourage anyone from resisting.
- Believe it or not the border clashes and shelling from pre-war days from Iraq side was so intense for several days even if city was under Direct fire no one believed war had really started, just clashes getting worst.
- With first batch of Iraqi POW (a group of 20) that had been captured during first days counter attack along border in Shalamche, and during their interrogation at IR Army 151st Fort Battalion just situated outside Khorramshahr City, the detailed planning and forces involved for attack and targets were revealed to shock of all concerned ........ no one thought Iraq would be foolish to actually really invade and start stupid war !
