How did you guess?
Too cold to go fishing on the lake. There are fish jumping out of the water everywhere though.![]()
Disinfecting the flesh wounds with vodka.
I know. We have some bars / clubs here that are more focused on gay parties, but they regularly also hold straight events, raves, concerts etc. . On those evenings, the regular stuff who is predominantly gay will also work. Quite confusing for many..."Uuhm you know that the guy behind the desk is gay?" She:" Yes but he is so cuuuute!" Oh well. At first, i was quite scared to visit those clubs although the events were straight, but i soon learned that there won't be swarms of gays running after my arse.
I understand. The three-eyed, heavy metal contaminated, kinds of fish.
Someone was recently asking our local Fish and Game Dept if the freshwater mussels can be consumed. They said that they used to be a staple of the local indigenous people, but that there is enough contamination in the rivers now to make the biologists say "I'll pass.." when it comes to eating the mussels nowadays.
The river which runs through our City, the Boise River, has recently been stocked with steelhead trout. The fisherman brave the cold temperatures to compete for these fish, wearing cold weather gear and waders and waterproof fishing gloves. You can see their cars and trucks parked near the river banks wherever there is public access. They have to fish quickly to get a steelhead, as the count of fish is low and the anglers must pay a special tag/fee for a limited season. It must be a fun fish to get though, as they fish as late as possible each evening.
Were those steelheads introduced into the Boise River with the idea to build up a self-sustaining stock or are they thought to be caught before breeding?
In most of our rivers and creeks that had a natural stock of brown trouts, the introduction of rainbows / cutthroats a long time ago was quite negative for the brown trouts. Friend of mine always releases the brownies he catches in the creeks he fishes, but takes home the rainbow trouts when it is permitted. Yummy fish, as all salmonides.
That's crazy. I enjoy fishing a lot but no way in hell I'm gonna go out in cold ass weather to do it. Most of my enjoyment of fishing come from relaxing on the bank between fish. I consider it mainly a fall , spring and summer activity. I don't see how people can enjoy themselves when it gets below 40 and above 100.
^----Yep. I'm not attracted to getting wet when it is that cold out. But, there are lots of people who go ice fishing. If you have the warm and/or waterproof gear, I guess it might be a hoot. Of course, I'm crazy enough to snowboard and I don't usually get cold as long as I'm not wet or staying still. Whiskey helps too!
Hello Q...
They are introduced to this particular river by the fish hatcheries and are meant to be fished out. You only can keep them if they have a clipped adipose fin. In this river, this means a 20-inch or larger trout with a clipped fin will get kept if caught. I don't think they can get to the ocean from here, so they don't establish themselves as native steelhead in the technical sense. I think they don't do anything to the browns. I only go after little rainbows, cutthroats and a few california goldens in the high mountain lakes myself.
