It has a ton of problems and the maintenance costs are quite substantial.

Yeah. But still..Wouldn't it be totally friggin awesome to live in a house on De Singel that, say, used to be owned by Rembrandt's son? lol

Better live in the country, with a Rembrandt on the wall.

The house was totally awesome. That is for damn sure (and coincidentally it was on de Singel)
aside from initail costs, I wouldn't do it based on maintenance costs, etc. unless all the structural issues, etc. had already been taken care of before hand.

I bet any herenhuizen without significant structural issues carry an insane pricetag, if they're on the market at all. A single floor is expensive enough already, imagine what a house would cost as a single lump sum purchase.

I'm kinda digging this one.. http://www.funda.nl/koop/amsterdam/h.../fotos/#foto-1

Sweetly renovated, spacious as hell, nice location, etc.

    Not exactly cheap though.

Well you could be alone with your trousers still on, that would be even worse.
