Hay Hay, girlfriends! Oh wait how that come out. Kinney, so for you a good man is an egotistical artists, who's works are in a song? Man Curt Cobain can do that plus much more emoer. Emoer even a word?
They're awesome. They are lightweight, shelf-stable, and packed with nutrition. Some are a bit salty, but they are meant for people who are exercising and therefore that is to be expected. I haven't looked to see if you can get "surplus" military rations in the USA anymore, but I'm looking for lighter food to haul on backpacking trips anyway.
I don't know if you can get these in Europe, but take a look at these guys: www.mountainhouse.com
In my "go" boxes, I have canned food. I figure I'm going to be using a Coleman stove and that means cooking stuff out of cans in a pot.
OK. I will.
Trekking Mahlzeiten or www.trekneat.com for you then!
We used to go camping in Canada, on the Acadian Shelf and go out for 2 weeks or more. All freeze dried food. We ate very little. 1 Pack instant oatmeal for breakfast and freeze dried coffee. I envelope Lipton cup of soup for lunch. One nice (well.. pro packed) freeze dried prepared meal for dinner. Very light. Maybe twice we had a nice breakfast like pancakes. Put in plastic bags. Butter in gerry tubes. Used the first week.
We'd each carry trail mix we made ourselves. A descent sized bag full for snacks. One water bottle each and chlorine pills. We packed clothes light too. 2 or 3 T-Shirts (we could hand wash and hang dry)Two pair gym shorts. 3 underwear. Two pair sneaks or one boots one sneaks (it was summer and we canoed). One sweat shirt. One tent per pair and one canoe per pair. Easy.
We might have caught a fish or two.
None of that luxury MRE stuff in the 70s.
Are those MRE's even tasty? Never tried one.
@Custodes Sounds awesome. Wish I had that kind of nature (relatively) close at my door step. It's probably possible to march straight through the Veluwe in a day. lol
They arent bad. but all MRE are not made equal. Pot roast, hamburger, meatloaf are ok, IMO, ive never eaten one warm though. Never had time to warm one up. nothing like a cold chicken Fajita with cheese sauce for breakfast.
Though, dig through em, Wheat snack bread, good. Fig bars, great. the crackers are good with the grape jelly, the peanut doesnt go down great when all you have is water.
They are OK....the portions are a bit small although, you can get biggie sizes. Beef enchiladas and Chicken Pesto Pasta, Spaghetti and meat sauce and Veggie Lasagna etc...
A lunch soup or something. Clam Chowder or Cheesie Potato. Crackers or bread. Jam. Coffee and stuff for it. Utensils. Drink mix. Fruit (like mixed fruit or apple sauce). Dessert like brownie or short bread cookie or chocolate chip cookie. Sometimes a Ranger snack bar. Sometimes a second hot drink mix like spicy apple thingee. Toaster pastry.
Edit: I like the wheat bread too.
