The weapon producers. In their advertises (for instance SIG) it say's who uses their weapon. But its no written about any mixed opinions...

That just doesn't make good buisness sence.

Military handguns have to have certain features on them. Berreta and Sig both have these features, Berreta had the lower bid, they win unless there is sufficent reason not to use it. Sig had the second lowest bid, so they got the contract for NSW.

It's not that the weapon is so hot, it just fit the parameters and was cheaper than the next option.

I was once in a situation where the mag in my Browning HP was so jammed up with sand I couldn't budge the follower at all. I ended up shaking all of the rounds out of the mag and dropping them into the chamber throught the ejection port one at a time. Not the best method of operation to be sure, but it worked!

    No.

The civilian version is for the civilian market. The military version is still in the system.

It's a sucky situation. There isn't any safety issues with the Mk23, so there is no reason to decomission the weapon. Some teams have been pushed to use the Mk-23 to get their money's worth out of it, but it's really of no use, it just isn't a tactically sound weapon for our use.

Damn, that svcks big time! you guys dont want, but get pushed to use it (at least keep it in your inventory).

Probably closer to the AWC Amphibian though.

They got rid of those at the same time they got rid of the Rugers, (and the P-9S).

Although the 1911 is probably one of the best gun designs ever, the SA and single stack mags probably aren't well suited for our missions.

Being SA, sand and crap can get into the space between the hammer and striker, not condusive to reliability.

A pistol is a feeble weapon, no matter what caliber. Shot placement is key.

No, it was a standard .22 pistol with a screw on suppressor, (Push, twist, lock).

    It wasn't SS or plated.

So what now ? They are going to stick with the Sig (I heard great things about the 226, but now....) ?

Personally I fired the Sig maybe once or twice but it was on the range not in the field etc.

Don't dismiss the 226/228 out of hand mate- what Match is saying I believe is that in a maritime NSW environment they don't necessarilly do the business. UKSF (Army) have been pretty happy with the SIG family for a number of years now for instance. Different environments, different needs.

On the Mk23- elements of ADF SF use the USP Tactical and I've only ever heard good things- completely at odds with everything I've heard about it's big brother (Match, someone told me once- might have even been one of our guys here- he saw a JSOC type tooling around with a Mk23 in a shoulder rig at Khandahar purely for CDI factor but that's about the only time I've heard of it carried remotely operationally).

So, what would be the "perfect" sidearm for the Navy SEALs then?
I would guess that whatever it is, it have to be accurate...

I'm not a SEAL but the Glock was mentioned. ( See Matchanu's post #629)

    Have a look at this:

    Glock Torture Test

    I'm just saying.
