Wiki says Col. Rowe started SERE school in 1981. I've read about Col. Nick Rowe on different boards - a SF legend he is.

Col Nick Rowe developed that school after his experiences in VN. You should read up on him, he was a major stud.
I read Col. Rowe's book years ago and was aware of the modern SERE course
start date (circa 1981). Darryl Young called it SERE in his book but it may
have just been for modern reference; it may have been a survival school.
I remember hearing about Col. Rowe being assassinated just before I left
    the service in 1989.

Darryl Young may have mixed up his terminology.

In any case, VN era was a unique time for the SEAL Teams. There was a lot of experimentation with procedure.

    Matchanu-

In 1981 Al Santoli released a book call Everything We Had: An Oral History of the Vietnam War.
The book details the experience of 33 veterans of the Vietnam War. One account was entitled “The
Green-faced Frogmen”. The interview was with a Seal Scout named “Mike Beamon”. His account
gave details that at that time were unknown outside the Seal community. He was later accused of
not being a Seal or even in the service. It turns out the his real name was Mike Beanan, an actual
Seal veteran. Have you ever read his account?

    Nope.

I can tell you there is no such thing as a "SEAL Scout" in the first place.

Phonies out number real deals by a very large margin.

    I blame Thomas Magnum.

I've read that in Vietnam SEALs were not too found of using Snipers during their missions. Which made sence (I think) since they used the VC's own tactics againt them (ambushes in the Mekkong Delta). When was the SEAL Scout/Sniper School established ?

    Much later, 80's I think.

Based largly on the Marine SS school. NSW modified it to incorperate our mission parameters.
