Silent Hunter 3....I got the U-96 on my first campaign!!
Well I've managed to take the U 96 all the way through till 1945,I have 4 months of the war left!!!.........and I've got the Knights Cross in Gold with Oakleaves and Diamond clusters!........oh and I'm running one of the realism mods........
I use vunerability mod, milk cows addon, mod that shows vunerability zones on ships in book. All realism options on,except diesel fuel. Last night i started new campagin in 7th fleet payed a visit in dover, almost got rammed by trade ship and had night cannon fight with dessie i stumbled upon during night surface travel. Pure luck my guys id it when it was at less than 1000m and opened fire.
4 trade ships 1 takner 1 dessie 1 damaged dessie over 22000 tons on sea bottom.
I remember the first time I ran into one of the large convoys,before they had deck guns,I sunk 12 ships,and had no ammo left!!.......the medal mod I run,was not very favourable to the crew for that patrol,I'd like to see more higher awards for crew members for an outstanding patrol(tonnage)

I never catch big convoys and I constantly patrol major shipping lanes.
I snuch into Scapaflow once, hoping to be the Next "Gunter Prien" however All i found was a empty harbour with two pissed off Flower Class Vett's that depth charged me into the stonage
( to find out at that point Scapa Flow wasnt developed into the game after I spent ours trying to sneak in )
If i remember in a 1.4 patch they incrased ammount of ships at ports. Well my anty dessie other anty-sub ships tactic is usualy turn my front/back at it torp on mag det, max speed one metre lower than ship hull is. Fire from less than 1km. When dessie speed and torp speed stack it will explode in center under the hull. 95% of dessies etc. will fall in to pieces.

Best lurking ground for big convoys is off the West Coast Of Scotland and the North of Ireland.....the immersion factor of this sim is superb!
crew management is also important!!
