What laptop do you have and how much did it cost?
Asus M51Sn and I spent about 1100 US Dollars for it. 15.4 inch screen size is just the right size for me and I can carry it around in my backpack.

    Specs
    Core 2 Duo T8100 CPU (2.1 GHz)
nVidia Geforce 9500M GS graphics chipset (512 MB VRAM, turbocached to 1 GB)
2 GB system RAM standard (maxed it to 4 GB)
    250 GB HDD
15.4" LCD screen (max resolution 1440X900)

Brand name is not really relevant but it's the specs, you can always get bigger screen size and better specs than mine but that will cost more.
For example the Dell XPS M1730 is designed for extreme gamers, it has 17 inch LCD screen and two graphics cards SLI, it's more powerful but
    also much more expensive.

This actually sounds like a great deal. I've got my HP Pavilion with 1G memory Geforce 7400 256M and dual core 1.8 for about 1500$ (it was more than a year ago though). I was considering at the time buying Asus, but for some reason decided HP is more "brandy" (it also has all the nice media features -TV out, remote control etc). I will buy my next comp a desctop, though.

It wasnt crappy it was awsome and earth shaking. The graphics and sound were amazing, and you could flip it onto a 3.5" floppy and take it to work or other computer labs and run it right from yoru floppy drive.

    Pure awsome.

All the consumer class laptops are crap whether they're Acer, Asus, HP or any other manufacturer.

If you want quality get Lenovo/Dell/HP business class or Sony portables.
