As Hellfish said, Combat Mission Shock Force. Definitely get all the modules (Expansions), Marines, British, and NATO. The stock campaign is pretty meh, but as the game has matured the campaigns get better and better. Multiplayer is good fun too.

It's not taxing at all. My framerate is a bit slow due to fraps recording. I run it on a 3 yearold laptop no dramas otherwise. The theme is a modern day (2008) invasion of Syria. In terms of wargames, it's probably the best tactical game out there, at least that I have played. Everything is calculated on actual data (which is publicly available, of course) and proper ballistics. Also, all the ORBATs are as realistic as possible for combat formations. You need to know real life tactics and doctrine or you will get slaughtered, especially with modern day weapons.

If you decide to pick it up, this guys blog is worth a read: http://cmsfwarchest.blogspot.com/

He is an officer from the US Army, and he is doing a WIP tutorial for the game. My video AARs should offer some help too.

A bunch of other screens from Thief 2: The Metal Age (which I just finished, and it's as awesome as ever).

Don't bother, great graphics - bad gameplay.

False. I rather enjoy the creative ways you can kill squads of baddies. The little aliens were annoying though.
