I haven't played in a year or two so I'm not sure what's new in the latest version.

That cat is so cute I want to punch it.
I get a kind of "Man on fire" vibe from Max Payne 3 screens and I'm not a big fan of that film. I prefer the atmosphere from previous games. My expectations are low but I'm hoping to be surprised.
Anyone saving up for X79 and PCI 3.0? Even though I just replace a X58 mobo, I'm saving up for the new X79 chipset. I'm thinking I need around $2000 to $2500 for a EVGA X79 mobo, X79 Intel CPU, and 2 GTX 690s. My case, RAM, and PSU are good. GTX 600 series is supposed to more powerful, use less power, and stay cooler so I think I'll only need 1200 watts.
Waste of money since there is no game that needs to be ran by a machine like that.
gta iv and arma 3 probably, horrible optimized games. Also, there will probably be games that require such settings. If you can run a game at highest settings and with a good fps - then thats the best alternative ; )
it is a system that will be usefull for a long time tho.
Possibly, but I just recently built a system with a sandy bridge cpu (Core i7 - 2600k @ 3.4ghz) which should last me a few years too. And I only spent 600ish USD on the setup, mobo / cpu / psu / hdd - using my existing RAM I have that is nice, GPU, my antec case, bluray media drive, sound card.
Exactly my point. If I can max BF3, ArmA 3 or any other game won't be a problem. This is why I had my X58 with 2 GTX 280s for almost three years. I didn't need to upgrade it until NVIDIA stopped supporting the 200 series and I had to buy 560s to play ArmA 2.
Plus, this is my future profession. It's better for me to learn different types of systems and their components before I get a tech job.
