Diablo games have always been fairly linear. However, when you're doing quests in D3, you may occasionally get an 'event', which is a sort of miniquest/sidequest you can do while in a certain location. D3 is meant to be played multiple times, on higher difficulties, in order to make enemies drop higher level loot. Obviously the point is that you do this with mates.
I'd ask someone for a guest pass or see if they opened up the Starter's Edition. Playing it, although you're restricted to the part of the game up until(and including) the Skeleton King, it should give you a good idea of what the game is like.

Just finished Cryostasis. An awesome/strange game that's gotten little attention. The performance issues that come with it are terrible, though.

So I'm going to exchange 12 console games I don't play anymore at Gamestop tomorrow. I'm going to hopefully get enough credit to buy a $50 and $20 Steam card to use for Max Payne 3. $700 base price of games gets you 10% exchange. What a jip, man.

Yep. Only available in the US at the moment though.
