That first picture reminded me of Medieval II Total War

Apparently, even though I've crusaded long and hard, overcome countless enemies, and evil hordes like the Ottomans, and converted all of Greece and Anatolia, the Crimea, some of the Tartars, and Syria into Christendom, somehow, I still can get excommunicated. Very easily. And I have low to no influence with the Pope. wtf
All that yellow is Catholic provinces (green is Sunni, lighter green Shia, orange Orthodox). And even worse, even though the Protestant Reformation has fired, I can't convert
Also, holy ****!

Play Total War, elect your own Pope.
Or play Protestant and destroy Catholicism.
To address your concerns, yes, a country can 'control' the Curia. However, you first need a majority of the cardinals in the place who are from your country (it used to be that they came randomly, and you could bribe them). The problem is that there is a percentage each Catholic country has to have the next cardinal from their province. Problem is, somehow my chance is always around zero percent, even though I've done nothing but Holy Wars against the heathens and heretics, and convert whole populations. I have not even waged one war against another Catholic country, even though a big bad Hungary tried to (they were put down to size later by a HRE Bohemia).
And so I said **** it, I wanna convert, but the option that allows you to do so normally when the Reformation fires is not showing up. I think it may be because I am technically a theocracy (well a monastic state - the Knights Hospitalliers/Knights Of St John). The problem is the Teutonic Knights are also a Monastic State, and they can not only convert easily to either Protestant or Reformed (Calvinism), but they can also easily become a kingdom (Prussia).
I know our Orthodox friends on the forums will not be happy knowing I've helped Catholicism to confine Orthodoxy to only Novogrod. I don't usually play Catholic countries though. And I got a lucky break when the Ottomans were embroiled in a major war. I can do the Coutner-Reformation, but I really don't want to be Catholic. Unless of course most countries convert out, leaving me as the Papal Controller by default
I still think Hindu Arabics right next to Medina/Mecca is hilarious XD
Just laid siege and won against a numerically superior Native garrison holed up in Wacamaccadingdong(or whatever it's called) in The Road to Independence in TW:Empire. They didn't even come out to fight.....
Dransik - a UO ripoff from a while ago, 2001 or so. It got renamed a few times, not sure if it's still going.
