During my childhood I grew up watching almost only soviet cartoons - Hollywood and Disney stuff wasn't widespread yet and in case you're hinting at the breakup of the Soviet Union - they're still showing Soviet made cartoons on Russian TV even today - and why shouldn't they - there are many very good ones.
