Great pics, thx He219. One of my best friends here in Germany is from Afghanistan. His parents had to flee from there in the early 80ies when the USSR invaded the country. They came to Germany after an odyssey over Pakistan. His whole family got separeted all over the world (US, Australia, Netherlands etc). Now he is more German that Afghan, because he grew up here. But his place of origin is Afghanistan. I hope that some day no one needs to flee from his home in order to be safe from persecution. It is a great sign that things are going well there.

Rheine - Nach 34 Jahren Dienst in der Luftwaffe kommt nun das Aus für den Fliegerhorst Hopsten. Der Fliegerhorst hat seit seinem Bestehen viele Flugzeuge starten und landen gesehen. Die Geschichte des Flugplatzes begann im Jahre 1938. Damals wurde er als Feldflugplatz für im Münsterland stationierte Jagdverbände genutzt.
Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Fliegerhorst 1961 von der Luftwaffe wieder in Betrieb genommen. Das Jagdbombergeschwader 36 (JaboG 36) war geboren. Die ersten Flugzeuge, welche das stolze Westfalenross als Verbandswappen zierten, waren vom Typ Republic F-84F "Thunderstreak".
