    Why are picture 1 and 2 DMR's ?? Those are just M16A4's with optics. They don't look any different from other M16A4's.

    You sir, are correct. But the Marines in the photos are most likely squad DMs. One guy per squad is usually designated internally as the squad DM. Nothing special about the rifle. Just the task the best shot in the squad performs on an ad hoc basis. But also, they appear to have drag bags. So they also might be spotters from the STA platoon getting some trigger time on the A4 instead of the M40.

    The Marine Corps currently has two DMR's, on the East Coast they tend to get M-14's with accuarized barrels. The West Coast hasn't really gotten any of those M-14's so they made DMR's out of M-16A4's, I beleive the armorers in 1st MarDiv did work on the barrels, and as USMC8541 said, the best shot in a squad gets additional training, and gets a scope and bipod usually for his A4.

    My cousin that's in iraq is a DM. And he does use the A4.
