Need some advice on new boots. Lowa? HanWag? Input please. EDIT(Now with pics)
Hi, Im in the market for som new Hiking boots.
Pricerange around 250-300 USD..
Since I live in Norway, a boot witch works well in snow as well as on bare rocks.
I have been looking at the Lowa special forces model. and they look pretty nice.
Durable design, good support, rain/snow resistance and good venting when hot is my main requirements.
Anyone have some input, or experiance with HanWag or Lowa boots?
I've no experience with the Hanwag, but the guy in charge of the boots at my local trekkingstore said they are as good as the Lowas.
I use to own the LowaMountain Boots GTX, excellent boots!!!
And now I've bought a pair of Meindl Army Gore, also excellent but need more time to break in!!!
You can also consider the Haix boots, excellent too!! http://www.haix.de/
Thanks for the tips guys. Im have still not made a descission. When I end up buying, I wil post my experiance here in this post. Jeez quality costs, but I figure its worth it..
lowa are excellant boots but best buy them from a decent shop and ask there advice .
unless you really need highleg boots a decent pair of hiking boots and gaiters are a better option.
personally always find goretex liners a bit hot may not be such a problem in norway
Andreas,
both LOWA and HANWAG make excellent boots. Currently, I am using the LOWA model. I used a HAIX model prior to that and between LOWA and HAIX I prefer the LOWAs.
However, you have to try them on, and see for yourself which fits better. That's the most important thing, IMHO. I know the LOWAs come in different width (as per specification from the German Army), maybe the HANWAGs also.
The HANWAGs seem to have a Vibram Sierra sole, whereas the LOWAs have the Tsavo, which is Vibram's latest design and obviously LOWA exclusive. The sole indeed has a very good grip and wear.

@ Andreas> A running shoe company named " Brooks" had a similiar design more than 15 years ago. However, with the 2* asymetrical sole it saw limted success.
The application to a mountaineering boot seems questionable due to the uneven/3D terrarian one MAY encounter.
