TREBISONDA - Don Andrea Santoro, un prete cattolico originario di Roma, θ stato ucciso a Trabzon, l'antica Trebisonda, in Turchia sul mar Nero. La polizia θ alla ricerca del presunto omicida, un ragazzo adolescente. Non si conoscono ancora i moventi dell'omicidio. Il sacerdote θ stato freddato a colpi di pistola nella chiesa di Santa Maria.

CHI ERA - Don Andrea Santoro, 61 anni, era il fondatore di un'organizzazione per il dialogo interreligioso «Una finestra per il Medio Oriente». Parroco per anni a Roma, dove era stato ordinato sacerdote il 18 ottobre 1970, era dal 2000 in Turchia, dove si era adoperato a lungo per migliorare i *******i tra la cultura islamica e quella cristiana.
Proprio i referenti in Italia di «Una finestra per il Medio Oriente» spiegano che Santoro aveva avuto in passato piccoli problemi in Turchia.
STAVA PREGANDO IN CHIESA - Monsignor Luigi Padovese, vescovo titolare del vicariato di Anatolia, ha detto che don Santoro si trovava «in chiesa intento a pregare, quando qualcuno θ entrato e lo ha freddato», ha dichiarato il prelato, che ha espresso la convinzione che si sia trattato di un «omicidio premeditato».
«Non possiamo escludere che l'uccisione del sacerdote sia legata» alle reazioni del mondo islamico per la pubblicazione delle vignette blasfeme. «Non posso escludere niente perchθ ancora non si sa niente» ha concluso Padovese.
NON ANCORA CHIARO IL MOVENTE - Non θ possibile per ora stabilire se ci sia un legame fra l'uccisione di Santoro e l'ondata di proteste nel mondo musulmano, che hanno coinvolto anche la Turchia, contro la pubblicazione su giornali di alcuni Paesi europei di caricature sul Profeta Maometto. L'uccisione θ stata condannata dal governatore di Trebisonda (Trabzon in turco), Huseyin Yavuzdemir: «Condanniamo questo attacco contro un uomo di religione...Ci sono testimoni e la polizia sta cercando di catturare il sospetto (omicida) sulla base delle informazioni fornite da questi».

They gave no more details, but CNN Turk television said police were looking for a young man aged about 17 years old seen fleeing the scene.
CNN Turk showed a small crowd of onlookers near the Santa Maria church where the priest was killed. The state Anatolian news agency identified the dead man as Andrea Santaro, aged 60. Other Turkish media said he had been in Turkey about five years.
Anatolian quoted Trabzon governor Huseyin Yavuzdemir as saying: "We condemn this attack against a man of religion ... There are witnesses. The police are trying to catch the suspect based on information the witnesses gave."
The gunman's motive was unclear. Turkey is overwhelmingly Muslim and has only a tiny Christian population.
Turkey, like many other Muslim countries, has seen regular protests in recent days against cartoons published in several European newspapers depicting the Prophet Mohammad.
Turkish leaders have expressed strong distaste at the cartoons, but have also called for calm and better understanding between different cultures and religious faiths.
