FYI, but in alot of Chernobyl pictures you see old gas masks laying around, but they were not originally there. Those gas masks were purposely put their to "enhance" the photographers pictures.
Same with these painted silhouettes that can be seen painted on the walls of some of these buildings in the exclusion zone, they were put their puposely
Getting back on topic:

Interesting. The addition of the gas mask certainly had the desired effect on me.
Your post also prompted a recollection of a book I read on the Civil War a few years back. A photographer; William Frassanito, used to move the bodies of dead soldiers around to various locations, to create more dramatic photographs.
A Sharp Shooter's Last Sleep - Contains B/W images of dead soldiers.
Desecration if you ask me.
Some pictures are staged but the gas masks where originally there

lots of pictures from the zone in Chernobyl. the story on the site is apparently somewhat exaggerated but the pictures are pretty real.
Not dramatic, but worth think about.
I was visiting Family in Penang,in Feburary and visited a good WWII fort.

Batu Maung
It a large fort in excellent original condition. I saved the most interesting for last.
Also notice the sign on the left. The Longest Walk. A British Army ATO approaches a suspect device in Northern Ireland.

Early morning on 17 February, US Navy launched massive naval air and surface attack, from nine carriers, against the Imperial Japanese naval and air base at Truk in the Caroline Islands, major Japanese logistical base as well as the operating "home" base for the Imperial Japanese Navy's Combined Fleet. Attack resulted in sinking of over 40 warships and merchants. It is known as Japanese Pearl Harbor! Today site is mostly known for some of the best wreck diving in the world.
Here are some pics of what you can find down under:

We had thread about Super battleship Yamato few days ago. This is a pic of 18 inch, 1.5 ton shells destined never to reach Yamato. I can tell you, they are hugeeeeeee!!!

Great pics zorro, thanks for sharing. I especially like the one of the Yamato's shells. That is untrue! Our 4.5" shells will spoil your day, but could you imagine getting one of those 18" bad boys down your neck? Crikey.
Oh **** it! I screwed up there. C'mon then let's have it...![]()
