Question Request: Pics of LAV-AD in Iraq.

Does anyone have any pics of the LAV-AD in Iraq that they could post here? I can't find any on the net of them in Iraq.

    TIA.

It wouldn't even make since to use the LAV-Air Defense in Iraq. Why? Because the Iraqi's don't have any aircraft. But welcome to our forums Future.

It would make perfect sense to use it. The LAV-AD has a FLIR, IIRC, and the vulcan gun would be an excellent fire support weapon. That said, I can't say I've ever seen pics of it in theater.

Sorry to stray from original topic, but I have seen pictures of the Anti-Aircraft Bradley Linebacker in Iraq here in the Daily Photos threads.

Exactly, My old Avenger unit was sent over there and spent the majority of their tour pulling the night shift!
On a side note, most USMC Avenger units have recently been disbanded. Ive never even seen a LAV-AD. I think there is only like 15 of them in the Marine Corps inventory (seriously).

Yeah, I thought the number was like 60 or something but either way there aren't many. I heard some proposals that the Marines wanted to take off the Stinger pods for Iraq and replace them with Hydra rocket pods firing HE and flechette rockets. Don't know whatever happened with that.

There's an interesting story about Bradley linebackers in OIF. During 3 ID's rush to Baghdad there was a bridge that needed to be secured and there were no infantry, cavalry or armored units to do it. One of the ADA batteries with Linebackers got the task. They held the bridge and fought off some Iraqi counterattacks all night. Pretty high speed for a branch of the Army that's practically useless.

Last I heard, the Linebackers were being retired, even though they've only been around for maybe 10 years. I think the Army is going all humvee-based for it's ADA now, with Avengers and SAMRAAMs or whatever they're calling them now.

There are reports of the LAV-AD being used in Iraq to open doors on houses. Using the 25mm Gattling gun to blow the doors in.
