There have been 3 crashes of Chinooks in Iraq:

May 21, 2005 - A Chinook from 4-123rd Avn crashes in Iraq due to failure of both engines. Five crewmen injured.

September 8, 2004 - Chinook crashes 20 miles south of Fallujah; all four crew members survive

November 2, 2003 - near Fallujah, Chinook shot down; 16 soldiers killed

Doesn't that wreckage look a little bit small to be a Chinook, anyone?

Are you sure it's not a CH - 46 Seaknight?

I think last weeks army times had an article about materiel casualties in OIF, near 1,000 total vehicle and aircraft losses, not that many helos down to enemy action though

There have been 3 Sea Knight crashes, 2 of which at sea

May 19, 2003 - CH-46 Sea Knight crashes, killing four Marines; another soldier drowns trying to rescue the crew.

April 8, 2003 - CH-46 Sea Knight crashes into the Mediterranean Sea while resupplying; all on board are rescued

March 20, 2003 - CH-46 Sea Knight crashes, killing eight British soldiers and four Marines.

So it's probably the last one which was also the 1st... RIP

anyone got some details on the crash of those two Marine CH-53E's during that joint exercise in Djibouti (sp?) some days ago?

Might seem a daft question but is this definitely Iraq? I seem to remember reports that the wreckage from the CH-46 crash involving the Brits was spread over a wide area but that may have turned out to be false. No SA-80s in the box either..

Anyone know how long that was out there for?? There's a lot of rusted weapons in that box.

    They're burned, not rusted.
