    Default Simpsons 'trump' First Amendment

Americans know more about The Simpsons TV show than the US Constitution's First Amendment, an opinion poll says. Only one in four could name more than one of the five freedoms it upholds but more than half could name at least two members of the cartoon family.

i'm not surprised...many are of the"news is bad,it'll ruin my day.i can't party while watching the news."so they bury their heads in the sand and when some major announcement comoes out, they have no real idea what it's really about.and it's gotten worse..i bet you may people think that cooking, cleaning, fcuking are cities in china, and believe everything they read see and hear as gospel...Sheep.....for the slaughter they are blissfully unaware is fast approaching...

The Simpsons: Lisa, Homer, Bart and Marge.

1st Amendment: Freedom of speech, religion, right to assembly, press...

    That's about it for me.

The socialists who control the education system seem to have achieved one part of their agenda.

Always nice to see the BBC's fascination and fixation with America and its people. I know a whole lot about our constitution but I probably know a whole lot more about The Simpsons. Did you know Millhouse is named after President Richard Milhous Nixon?

No $hit. In High School, I was required to take both Ohio Civics and and a U.S. Government class (in addition to history of both) to understand how it worked and just exactly what it represented. We also were required to work on a local political campaign (it could have been ANY campaign in the are, but it had to involve the people voting) during a semester. I understood it all, but I never fully appreciated it till after college.

Now what do these kids get?

    Not a goddamn thing.

Used to be a requirement to graduate and now its an elective.

    Pathetic.

The only people who are required to have a basic understanding of civics anymore are immigrants applying for citizenship.

A friend's fiance took it last summer. The anecdote is that she gave a robust answer to a question about the causes of the US Civil War and was marked down for it. Apparently the answer the proctor was looking for was "slavery".
