What sort of grouping would you normally get with the ones that the more serious airsofters here use at 100 ft?

    Default Quick Airsoft Question

My son is going to start airsofting, I'm thinking about having ago aswell. Were going to get a license and then going to buy some rifles but I have a question about the rifle I'm going to get.

I'm going to buy this...A R85a1 but does the Star sa80 AG36 fit on this?

I might consider joining a large airsoft tournament sometime in the future without anything more sophisticated than maybe a toy BB gun that sells for less than $20. Mostly to sneak about and maybe pop a dude in the back and laugh at his expensive gear.
Those airsoft matches that last a few days seem like fun but I don't want to spend money on an airsoft rifle that'll send me back a few hundred bucks.
Not to put you down or anything, but I HIGHLY doubt you will get far with a "toy bb gun" that is less than $20 in a tournament. And unless you are batman, I do not think you will be able to sneak behind a team wielding high end guns. You'll most likely get lit up from all directions...

    Now to answer your question
    Here is an example:
*An average stock JG/Echo 1 AEG will shoot out to about 150 feet consistently max, with the exeption of a few guns such as the AKM Red star, and the ASC. The AKM has a range of 200 feet stock, and the ASC can go out to 230 feet consistently stock.
*Higher priced guns such as CA, ICS, G&G, KWA, etc all have similar effective ranges, it really depends on which model you get. A CA Mp5 can go out to aproxx 140 feet, while a KWA M16 will shoot accurately up to 200 feet.

As for other weapons, The average stock unupgraded sniper rifle is at a dissadvantage when battleing AEG's. The range is about the same, or less, and the FPS is also about the same. Sniper rifles need to be upgraded in order to compete against AEG's.

There are extremely high priced custom made sniper rifles, such as the Right hook fabrications Mantis, which has a range of 300 feet.

If you do not want to spend $$$ for an airsoft tourney, the least you can get away with would be $25 + shipping for a Matrix/CSI Spring Shotgun which is very reliable, and has an effective range of no more than 100 feet. Even with that gun, you will need lots of practice, stealth, skills, and the ability to flank/outmanuver/think and react quickly in order to compete with AEG's.

    Thanks that helps!
Not really interested in the pitched battles element in airsoft as I am in sneaking my way around. I suppose it'll depend on the size of the field, the type of terrain and how many players are involved.
If it's a small field, yeah, there is no hope with a cheap gun.

Is there a thread I'm not seeing for AEG internals questions? Apologies if so.

Whenever I put a tougher spring in my M16 (I think it's a TSD), it won't fire. It's like the gears start but are instantly stopped as though they can't pull the piston back. Does this mean it needs a higher-torque motor? I'd like it to be my field gun since I have a KWA M4 CQB for CQB. The spring I was installing was either an M120 or M130... can't remember, as it was a while ago.

so you left everything stock and added that M120 spring? that is definitely going to increase the chances of your piston stripping or worse, your gears stripping. when installing a harder spring definitely plan on getting stronger gearbox parts and a motor to do the extra work. when getting a tougher spring you sacrifice rate-of-fire, so don't expect a high-speed, long-distance set-up unless you shell out for some wicked expensive parts that will last just as long as they're more affordable counterparts.

I respectfully disagree. Everyone I know locally upgrades the spring, battery, and puts in a tight bore right away with no problems. It came stock with a M110. Going from a 110 to a 120 doesn't require completely-redone internals. It has an upgraded piston already, too. It has an SRC Ultra-Torque Motor, but I'm wondering if that isn't enough. That, and I'll probably cut the spring shorter. Oh, and I really don't care about the rof. I'm not a sprayer. I use semi.

Fixed the problem. The shims were making the gears too tight. I can't fit a single shim.

the opposite is the case in my area. it's a reliability issue and all the money an airsoft gun requires to keep running for as long as it would if left stock means a lot of airsofters redo the whole gearbox. more power required to push the spring means more strain on all those parts that apply that power. it's pretty logical.

I'm quite aware of the logic behind it. I simply disagree that that slight a change requires that much upgrading. And like I said, it has a Systema piston... and also Systema piston head, cylinder head, and spring guide, and CA gears. So it is partially upgraded already.

    Cheers.

hi, i´m new to airsoft and i want to buy a mp5k

i looked around a bit and found this:

    http://www.precisionairsoft.com/Prod...uctCode=TMR040

MP5K from Tokio Marui. I read only good things about that producer so far, but i hope you guys can tell me more.

Is that a good choice for a starter weapon? or are there better mp5k´s out there?

    many thanks in advance

(i hope this is the correct place for my question)
