Since the US Arms embargo in 1992, many units switched over to eastern bloc weapons while at the same time, they are still using NATO/US oriented small arms. As you can imagine, it created a nightmare for our supply corps. But I have heard talks about US State Secretary Rice wanting to lift the arms embargo and resuming the IMET program which is a good thing because we have so many C130's and F16's grounded due to lack of spare parts. Also, the newly created DEN SUS 88 AT (Special Detachment 88 Anti Terror) of the Indonesian National Police is really being spoiled by the US Govt. They recieve training from the FBI and the BDS. I had the pleasure of conducting cross training with DEN SUS 88 and I must say that their equipment is up to par compared to their counterparts in the US Special Operations Community, while us Marines still have to deal with rusty BTR's and M16 A1's. But as they say its not the gun but the it is the mand behind the gun right?
