British Sea Wraith and more cool designs

Here are pics of the prototype in action

    The Triton Trimaran Research Ship

Triton is testing technology for the Royal Navy's Future Surface Combatant (FSC) frigate requirement

The Triton trials programme is testing the suitability of the trimaran hullform

Trimaran demonstrator vessel under construction at Southampton

RV Triton enters the water equipped with 300 sensors to record hull stresses

note: the small size; in reality they won't be built this small - this is 1/3 of the scale of proposed of the smallest frigates being thought up.

On another note - the US are having a good dab at Stealth ships - their most successful being the DD-21, but France and other nations are having a go (just taking normal ships and plastering them with low signature plating). Britain on the otherhand is still developing this little beautie: "The Seawraith"

Great Britain's shipbuilder,Vosper Thorneycroft LTD, has offered plans to the British Navy for a stealthy corvette class ship called the "Sea Wraith". The Sea Wraith's asymmetric towers, movable mast, wave-piercing bow, and several other innovative features will make it one of the stealthiest and deadliest ships afloat. "Sea Wraith" will utilize a radar absorbing composite superstructure and deflecting angled design to achieve stealth. High speed electric motors will make it very quiet.

Sea Wraith will take stealth a step further, using artificially generated mist to disguise it as a patch of fog. This cloud of mist would visually mask the ship. At the same time, it would prevent infrared sensors from detecting "hot" spots created by the ship's powerplant or recently fired weapons.

^^^ Now that is pure genius ^^^

These ships are just ideas and protoypes for the future they are not confirmed, and these ships are not even full size only 1/3 the actual size that they will be if built. Im sure some of the British guys will be able to answer this better and give more info on these projects.

    Future Frigate design

Future destroyer(note that this will be the largest surface combat ship made for the RN of this type since the second world war.)

Well nothing on the production line as far as I know however these are the concepts accepted by the RN at the moment.

The carrier I know for sure will be built, France is buying one and UK is buying two.

It is safe to assume that since the Triton has been doing quite well in its sea trials that the future frigate will be a much larger and heavily armed trimaran.

one of the best advantages is that they could have the exhaust come out underneath the ship between the two outter hulls. This would greatly reduce heat signature. Also added speed and stability and the wider upper deck could have two hangers instead of one.
