Is that TNO made a design, and they went to ops core to see if it would be possible, then ops core took some of the design and put it in the helmets they build now (which in my opinion are way to expensieve for the dutch army to buy) the design still has the modular system of ear pieces and full integral helmet, they even tested a prototype by shooting at the connection points of the modular pieces and appearently it performed very well.

Only problem now is, they won't be completely designing one themselves anymore, in 2015 they will buy one off the shelf at some supplier, but didn't get any info on who that could be, only the story about ops core
    That's a bit vague.

Anyway I've got my 'weekend soldier' cousin over, and he was wondering if they will ever get the new stuff. Seeing that in the late 90's they were still walking around with steel pots and 80's gear.

Don't think NATRES will see any of the new stuff except perhaps camo, if they're doing a phased roll out with regular army infantry first, it will probably be years before the NATRES bats see anything fancy.

I know, he wont shut up about the fact he's still got 'blokkentuig' from the 90's.

We, as long as the budget won't get cut even more, we where assured we would get it in 2014

When you look at our current camo Patern it's already 40 years old (the pattern!) and no science has gone onto making it, and the fabric of our unifors is just horrible.

Some I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, let's put it this way: the things they showed me got me exited.

New (black) boots were introduced in 1991, woodland camouflage in 1993, followed by the modular vest and helmet in 1994. After the end of conscription in 1996 there were a lot of changes and improvements as suddenly we went places other than the North German Plain.

I was issued with a Model-58 sleepingbag in 1986, and Model-74 clothes and gear. We have come a long way since then...

To think all it takes for his gear to get upgraded is for his 'foef', and CO, to do their work, and make a few calls and fill out an existing form on a computer.....

As for the date, it is a money thing, right now they have enough money to start equipping the infantry in 2014, the rest will follow when whole the inf and recon have it. But when the new government decides that we have to cut even more of the budget, chances are we wont get any at all. But officially the money is there, and in 2014 inf will get all the new equipment. With a special deathline of 2015 for the helmet. Which by the way is prototyped by ops core.

Sorry I was not allowed to make pictures of it.
Sounds promising for infantry, but as usual us combat engineers will get it after the air force and national reserve got their hand on it... Ah well, at least the boss is now spending money on decent equipement. Recently they banned the sand-coloured shirts on the KPU-site and replaced them with blue/green moisture-wicking shirts, that apperantly everybody is now issued with instead of the sand-coloured shirts. Small steps are being made already and the future sounds very good. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't all be cancelled by new budget cuts.

My dad had his OD green parka/cold weather smock(whatever it was, it's a while ago, heh) stuck in some dark corner of the garage for years. He was in a couple of years before you(41 TkBat in '76) so I shudder to think when his gear was made, haha.

It means we had exactly the same gear unfortunally, except tankers got lined boots.

I found my dad's old crap as well (luchtdoelartillerie '81), I don't know if 20+ years of Caribbean temperatures in a moist shed made it look like crap or whether it was crap when issued.

His unit can make a request for a gear change. His supply Sgt needs to do some work with a phone and a computer, his CO needs to motivate and sign it. Other units did, the system works, if you are willing to use it that is.

They stopped upgrading the natres as a result of budget cuts, he says. They were about to get new issue gear and upgraded c-7's but then it was cancelled.
    And he's just a whiny part-time bitch.

There is actually enough grear to go around again, just waiting in Utrecht for someone to come and pick it up. It is true that there was a stop on changing out gear for a while as new personnell needed to be outfitted first, but it has been addressed since.
