Btw. on the defense website there is an interesting material project for the CV9035. It's called CE protection suites, it will provide more protection against IEDs and RPG. A combination of active and reactive armour.

Have you heard about anything like that for the CV90 signatory?

about IED protection I don't know.. but for aerial threats there's three protection systems for the CV90 that I know about.

One Israeli (Rafael), One South African/Swedish (Denel/Saab), one Swedish (Åkers Krutbruk).

I believe Holland is buying the SA one in the soft-kill setup (LEDS 50), but it can be easily upgraded with hardkill (LEDS 150) for protection against RPGs and ATGMs, you already got the laser warners on the vehicles. the softkill version use a multispectral grenade to mask IR and break radar locks etc. LEDS 300 under development will even kill tank rounds.

The Åkers Krutbruk AAC Active Armor concept otoh get most attention from our Military.. pics below. In demo phase right now.

    AAC

The Israeli system which is basically reactive armor afaik came first but is apparently not as safe as the AAC.

    Rafael

And of course you can add extra armor to better protect against mines and projectiles, the CV90C which we use in international ops got 4 tones of extra armor..

Yeah they've been hit. Two by IED's and one by multiple rockets (RPG probably), it had to be destroyed by an Apache because it couldn't be salvaged but the occupants were unharmed.

Probably not a sight you see very often when serving on a Navy vessel.

Seems like the taliban are improving their tactics. A Dutch armoured vehicle was hit by an RPG and small arms fire wounding one soldier. Another vehicle that went to help the armoured vehicle was then struck by a IED wounding four soldiers inside it.

5 Dutch Soldiers Wounded in Afghanistan

    By AMIR SHAH
    Associated Press Writer

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Taliban militants killed two policemen and destroyed a remote government office in central Afghanistan, as five Dutch troops were wounded in a clash in the country's south, officials said Wednesday.

Dozens of militants armed with heavy weapons attacked the Ajristan district center in Ghazni province late Tuesday, burning the building and killing two policemen, Ghazni police chief Ali Shah Ahmadzai said. The remaining officers fled into a nearby village, he said.

Police reinforcements, backed by the U.S.-led coalition, were sent to the remote area on Wednesday, Ahmadzai said.

Taliban routinely attack remote police and government offices, but are rarely able to control these buildings for long after police or army reinforcements arrive.

In southern Afghanistan, five Dutch soldiers serving with NATO's International Security Assistance Force were wounded Tuesday night in Uruzgan province after militants opened fire on them, the Dutch Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The five wounded troops were transferred to a Dutch hospital in the force's main base near Tirin Kot, Camp Holland. Their injuries ranged from grazes and back injuries to broken bones, the ministry statement said.

Quick recovery for the wounded. I guess we got lucky that nobody got killed in that attack.
